The Wisconsin Badgers, with their flawless 6-0 record, have always had a reputation of flying under the radar, but it’s especially noteworthy this year as they are ranked #5 in the nation, just outside of the CFB Playoff scenario.
Basically, the Badgers need to beat some better teams, although it’s not likely their competitor this Saturday, the 3-3 Maryland Terrapins, fits the bill.

Ultimately, barring something unforeseen, the Badgers should continue to roll this weekend in front of their home support. Perhaps the only unanswered question is, can Wisconsin win handily and earn some style points in the process?
Maryland Terrapins
The Terps, despite not fitting in geographically with the Big Ten Conference footprint, have found a comfort level in their (relatively) new conference.
They sit at .500 with a conference win against the Minnesota Golden Gophers and a feather-in-the-cap victory over Texas to start the season.

Still, it hasn’t been all peachy in College Park. School AD Kevin Anderson is taking a six-month sabbatical after rumors of his being fired, and the Terps have enough on their plate with a visit to Camp Randall Stadium this Saturday.
In order to pull off a big upset, Maryland must lean on players like WR D.J. Moore, a junior from Philly whose 44 receptions for 624 yards and seven majors lead the team.
Maryland sits at only 1-2 in the Big Ten, after healthy drubbings at the hands of Ohio State and Northwestern. Starting QB Max Bortenschlager is listed as questionable for the Badgers game, after injuring his arm versus Northwestern last week.
In all, the Terps are probably in tough up against the Badgers and their rabid fans in Madison.
Wisconsin Badgers
It’s a certain type of attention to detail and refusal to rest on laurels that makes the Wisconsin football program what it is – a perennial contender in the Big Ten.
Despite being 6-0, players are harping on cleaning up their game going into the Maryland game.
The Badgers would be the first to acknowledge they haven’t played stiff competition thus far, which is why they are left on the outside looking in with the current FBS Playoff picture.
They only managed 17 points against a pesky (but clearly second-tier) Purdue ballclub last week; but the Badgers have been firmly in control of their destiny apart from that.
Offensively, veteran QB Alex Hornibrook plays efficiently even if he doesn’t wow you (1,210 pass yards, 11 TDs to six INTs), while RB Jonathan Taylor has been the straw that stirs the drink.
Through six games, he is just shy of cracking 1,000 rushing yards (986) to go with 10 TDs and a robust 7.8 yards per carry average.

On the other side of the ball, Wisconsin has been sterling: they average just over 13 points per game against, which is good for fifth-best in the nation.
Linebacker T.J. Edwards and DB Natrell Jamerson have been particularly impactful. Pass rusher Garret Dooley has been a force, registering 5.5 sacks so far. If the Badgers can sustain this kind of play, Maryland’s offense should be in tough this weekend.
Free Week 8 NCAA Football Pick
Maryland’s defense has been decidedly unimpressive in the 2017 campaign.
That will likely be the difference against a Badgers’ attack that can dismantle you with the short passing game courtesy of savvy vet Hornibrook, not to mention run all over you with Taylor and their stable of running backs (Bradrick Shaw and Chris James have also both been effective on their touches).
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Wisconsin -24.5.
Sure, Maryland has enough talent to compete in the Big Ten – a “Power 5” conference as they call it – but Wisconsin is one of the Big Ten’s elite this season. The real contenders should come out in the wash in this Wisconsin home game, and the Badgers should win decisively.
