The Ragin’ Cajuns come in to this weekend hoping to extend their win streak to 3 games, a result that would push them over the .500 mark for the firs time this year.
Louisiana has turned up the heat on offense of late, scoring 108 points in their last two outings. The Ragin’ Cajun’s have climbed to 14th in the nation in rushing yards per contest (248.2), as the ground game has been a major contributor to their recent success.

Since these two became conference opponents five season’s ago, the Mountaineers have dominated the short series. Appalachian State is 4 – 0 against Louisiana, and has won all four games by at least 19 points.
Louisiana Ragin Cajuns
I an assume you have heard the expression ‘ground and pound’? Well if you caught any of the Louisiana vs. New Mexico State game last weekend, you saw exactly how to pound the rock on the ground from the Cajuns.
Elijah Mitchell (460), Trey Ragas (599), and Raymond Calais (296) are the top-3 ball carriers on the Louisiana roster this season. Last weekend, the three of them combined for 40 carries, and gained at least 90 yards. Mitchell found the end zone 3 times, and QB Andre Nunez was about as perfect as you can be in the 66 – 38 win over the Aggies.
Nunez went 19 for 25, had 315 passing yards and connected on 5 touchdown passes in the home win. Even the backup QB, Levi Lewis, got in on the act, as he tossed the ball around for 100 yards and a score as well.

Lewis completed 3 of his 4 attempts as both signal callers had their way with the Aggies defense.
The Mountaineers defense will not be as easy to push around, so the Ragin’ Cajuns have got to stay consistent if they plan on escaping Kidd Brewer Stadium with a win. Obviously, it would be a major upset in Sun Belt play, being that the Mountaineers are favored by almost 4 touchdowns.
Appalachian State Mountaineers
The Appalachian State defense has been absolutely incredible this football season. If you remove that Penn State result from their schedule, the Mountaineers have given up 9, 7, 7 and 9 points in their last four games.
Let’s not forget that Penn State game, however, because Appalachian State almost provided another big ‘Sun Belt Surprise’ moment against another Big 10 opponent. Penn State were -24 point favorites to open the season against this Mountaineer squad.
It took a 45 – 38 OT win for the Lions to start their season 1 – 0, and Appalachian State has certainly shown that the loss didn’t get them down. Of course, we all remember the Appalachian State vs. Michigan upset years ago, right?
Appalachian State defeated Arkansas State last weekend, 35 – 6, advancing to 4 – 1 this year. Unfortunately, senior RB Jalin Moore suffered an ugly ankle injury in the win, and he is likely done for the season.
Moore was a 1,000+ yard rusher the last two season’s, and had 400 yards so far this campaign. Should he not return to the field, he will leave the program with 3,570 rushing yards in his career. He will be missed in the passing game as well, so his absence will certainly need to be addressed.
We can expect a committee of running backs to pick up the slack in the ground game going forward.
Darrynton Evans, Zac Thomas, D’Andre Hicks and Marcus Williams Jr. are all averaging well over 5 yards per carry between them. Moore was certainly getting the bulk of the carries, but QB Zac Thomas is used to handing the ball off to everyone in this offense.

This will not likely be the weekend that that Mountaineers will miss their leading tail back, Jalin Moore.
The Lafayette defense ranked near the bottom of almost every defensive category last season, and they are 116th or worse in 4 major defensive categories again.

Free Week 8 NCAA Football Pick
The play here will point towards the Over 65.5. There will be plenty of Appalachian State defensive stops that will kill Louisiana drives in this contest, but that won’t stop the Mountaineers from scoring 52 points this weekend.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Appalachian State are heavy favorites in this game, listed at -26 with a 65.5 on the total. Free ATS or O/U final score pick provided below!
The Appalachian State team total to go over the number set might be a nice option, as I see them scoring about 52 points in this home win.
I predict a 52 – 21 victory, with a late touchdown to eventually see the game topple the total of 65.5.
