Kent State actually has an impressive defense that did cause some teams fits last season.
However, it’s their offense that stands zero chance. Can their offense find some sort of improvement and give this team a chance?
Kent State Golden Flashes Predictions: Team Strengths
Sneaky Good Defense
The Golden Flashes defense was one of the best in the nation, yes you read that right, last season.
Kent State ranked 27th in the nation last season as they allowed 350 yards per game. The Golden Flashes front seven was absolutely dominant, rarely allowing giant chunks of yardage on the ground.

The major key for Kent was forcing the opposition in to long 3rd down to go situations.
Nate Holley headlines the defensive backs and he may be the best in the MAC. Look for him to lead another talented bunch this season that can really cause teams some fits.
Kent State Golden Flashes Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Everything Besides Defense
Yikes. While their defense is one of the best, their offense is literally the worst.
Kent State averaged a nation low 13.1 points per game and that even seems like a generous number given how bad the offense was down the stretch of the season.

They were 2nd last in terms of yardage per game with 271 yards of total offense.
The special teams did them no favors either. Kent State had one of the worst kicking games as well, making them really never in field goal range.
This team has a lot of work, but also had a lot of underclassmen manning the fort on both sides of the ball last season.
They got their feet wet with game action, especially in the 2nd half of the season, but it’s time for this program to take a step in the right direction.
Kent State Golden Flashes 2016 Prediction: 4-8
Kent State actually has a chance to start the season 2-1. They get the daunting task of Penn State week 1, but follow that up with 2 sub division opponents at home.
However, that winning record won’t last long as a trip to Alabama looms.

Kent State is likely far away from where they want to be, but this is a season where they have to take a step in the right direction. Paul Haynes has his job on the line this season and must produce some sort of improvement.
The Golden Flashes offense will keep them from doing damage this season, but look for them to at least put up more of a fight within conference games. A 4-8 season is a very realistic option here for Kent, but would also likely spell an end to the Paul Haynes era in Kent.
