A strong 5-1 finish down the stretch got Boston College back to a bowl game for the second straight season.

Iowa went through a very up and down season with strong results against some top competition but disappointing results in other marquee games.
Iowa Hawkeyes
The Iowa Hawkeyes are the sole reason Ohio State is not playing in the college football playoff.

They put the Buckeyes through a full-on beatdown in their 55-24 early November win. In addition to that, Iowa nearly knocked off Penn State – falling 21-19 on a last second touchdown.
But, Iowa also lost a game at home late in the season to Purdue and got embarrassed at Wisconsin in another chance to take on top competition.
Iowa took part in mostly low-scoring games all season long – outside of that win over Ohio State and a couple others.
They allowed just 4.9 yards per play – which ranked 28th in the FBS. They allowed opponents to convert just 33% of third down attempts – which ranked 23rd in the FBS. And, they had the 8th best passing defense in the nation in terms of yards per attempt – allowing just 5.9.
Offensively, they were very inconsistent – sporting below average rush and pass offenses. They generated points by forcing turnovers – forcing 1.9 per game which was good for 21st in the FBS.
They will have to protect the football themselves though to protect their defense as Boston College forced the 12th most turnovers in the nation.
Boston College Eagles
The loss of quarterback Anthony Brown for the season in mid-November looked like it could be the nail in the coffin for Boston College.

But, the Eagles bounced back from his injury and won their final two games of the season – both away from home.
Darius Wade stepped in at quarterback but the Eagles relied heavily on their run game and defense to finish off the regular season.
Tailback AJ Dillon finished the season with over 1400 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.
Wade was effective and efficient in his play and he guided the Eagles to 81 total points in their last two games. He isn’t as strong running the ball as Brown was but Dillon and Jon Hilliman picked up the slack there – combining for 574 rushing yards between the two of them in the final two games.
Against Iowa’s strong pass defense and with cold weather expected in late December in New York, expect the Eagles to use a similar formula to try to win this football game.
The MVP of the Pinstripe Bowl has been a running back 5 times in the bowl’s 7 year history. Expect Dillon to make a strong case for another running back winner.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends

Both teams have shown they can put points on the board during different parts of this season. Boston College is coming into this game hot having won 5 of their final 6 games. I expect lots of big plays from them on the ground and Iowa quarterback Nathan Stanley should help keep pace – having thrown for 25 touchdowns on the season.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Over 46.0
Boston College should dictate the pace of this game and for them, that will mean uptempo. Iowa will have to work the ball down the field to keep up. I like Boston College to win but this game to go over the low total.
