This matchup between two of the bottom tier Big Ten teams won’t have much impact on the season outside of the strength of schedule for Big Ten contenders Michigan and Ohio State.
Neither team has the skill to pull together a string of wins to become bowl eligible, so playing for pride and to salvage the season are the key motivators in this game.

The Fighting Illini come into this game on a four game losing streak after a losing a tough game against Purdue.
Rutgers has looked like the worst offense in all of college football after being shut out for 2 weeks in a row against the heavyweights in the conference.
Illinois Fighting Illini
Quarterback Chayce Crouch was a dual threat all game against Purdue. In the overtime loss he threw for only 142 yards but ran the ball 17 times for 132 yards and 2 scores.
This week against the Rutgers defense he should do more damage on the ground than last week. I look for him to get 150 yards rushing and 2 scores as the Rutgers defense can’t slow down anybody.
Tailback Reggie Corbin had a good game against Purdue. He ran the ball 11 times for 92 yards and also had one catch for 30 yards. If Illinois focuses on running the ball again this week he should have a dominant game.
Receiver Malik Turner has been the go-to receiver in the Illinois passing game. He has not scored since week two, but in each of the last 3 games he has had at least one catch for 25 yards and had 9 catches for 129 yards last week.
If Crouch can get the ball to him early he should be able to break the game open for the Fighting Illini.

Defensively I expect Illinois to shut down Rutgers offense. A key part of that is Rutgers inability to move the ball down the field.
Against Purdue they were able to force two interceptions and I’m looking for the defense to get 4 sacks and force 3 turnovers against then Scarlet Knight offense.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Even though they have 2 wins on the record is Rutgers the worst team in football? The last two games against Ohio State and Michigan they have been outscored 131-0.
Chris Ash is looking to breathe new life in the program but the talent level gap is still to wide for Rutgers to be considered a bowl contender in the conference.
The numbers last week were as bad as you can get for an offense. After a 3-12 game where he threw for 33 yards against the Buckeyes in Week 5, QB Chase Loviano followed that up with an even worse performance against Michigan.
The Senior QB was 1-8 for 6 yards. At this point it wouldn’t hurt to make a switch at quarterback because they can’t play any worse right? The only saving grace for Loviano is that he has not thrown an interception in the last 4 games.
True Freshman running back Trey Sneed did as good as he possibly could against the Wolverines. Last week he had 8 carries for 27 yards.
The offense should revolve around him for the rest of the season.I expect him to get 12 carries and reach 70 yards, surpassing his entire season total.
The stat that stood out the most to me for the Scarlet Knight offense was 3rd down conversions. For the game they were 0-17 on third down which is an alarming stat that must be addressed by the coaching staff this week.

The defense has been horrible the last 2 weeks. Against the Wolverines they gave up 481 yards rushing on 56 carries, showing that the defensive front seven got pushed around all game.
This week don’t look for them to slow down the Illinois rushing attack as I expect them to give up 300 yards on the ground.

As bad as Rutgers has played for the last two weeks, don’t expect things to change against Illinois. This one will be over by the third quarter.

The Rutgers offense won’t do anything against the Illinois defense, and I don’t see them scoring for a 3rd straight game.
