This week eleven matchup will see the Illinois Fighting Illini taking on the Michigan State Spartans. This is a middle tier Big Ten game at best, but is still one that could prove to be exciting.
Kickoff for this game is set at 3:30 Eastern time, otherwise known as right when the biggest game of the season is played between the Tigers and the Tide.
Illinois Fighting Illini
The Illini are starting to put together a decent season for their standards, coming in just one win away from becoming bowl eligible. They have now won three games in a row and most recently beat the brakes off Rutgers.
Even during their win streak, the offense is not putting spectacular numbers. In their upset win over Wisconsin, which kicked off their turnaround, they have a total of 315 yards. Two weeks ago against an injured Purdue team, they put up 278 yards. Even last week against one of the worst teams in the country, they put up 324 yards.
This has me worried for the game against Sparty because they just are not moving the ball very effectively.
Their offense does not pass the ball well at all, ranking 115th in the country. Their rushing offense ranks ranks 69th in the country, so they are not exactly good at that either.

Defense has been what has sparked this Illini team and it will be the key to them pulling yet another upset. The Illini are pretty decent at defending the pass, ranking 46th in the country. Their rush defense however has suffered, ranking 95th in the country.
No, the biggest difference in this game is going to be turnovers. The Illini defense has forced 8 of them over the past three games (all wins), compared to their offense committing 1 turnover during this stretch.
Michigan State Spartans
The Spartans season has really taken a turn for the worse as they come into this game having lost three games in a row. It is not like they are competitive in these games either. No, they were hammered in all three. Granted, the three losses were against Ohio State, Wisconsin and Penn State, but still Michigan State is expected to at least put up a fight against these opponents.
They are now coming off their bye week, so maybe the extra time will have been good for the team. However, there is also the fact that Michigan is their opponent next week, so this could also be a look ahead spot for Sparty.

For starters, the offense for this team is straight garbage. They scored a total of 17 points in their last three games combined. 17 points?? That is an average of 5.7 points per game. Their rushing offense is awful, averaging 114.4 yards per game and ranking 118th in the country.
On the other side of the ball, the defense has been overall solid, but boy not against those top teams in the conference. Over the same stretch of three losses, they allowed a combined 100 points or an average of 33.3 per game. Even against a team like Illinois, this is not going to be a winning formula.

Free Week 11 NCAA Football Pick
There is nothing I like about this Michigan State team and I am honestly not sure if they will even win this game given how they have played.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Illinois Illini +14.5
So, my biggest question is, “Why in the world is Michigan State laying two touchdowns against an Illinois team that is starting to play well? What has Sparty done this year to warrant this line?”
This almost feels like a pick that is too easy and a trap, but I am still rolling with the Illini catching double-digits (and the hook) on the highway.
