The Fresno State Bulldogs and Boise State Broncos meet for a second time this season, but the winner of this game will be crowned Mountain West Conference Champions. We also have ourselves a little rematch, as these two teams met in last year’s MWC title game, with Boise State coming out on top, 17 – 14.
Boise State hosted Fresno State just a few weeks back on November 10 here on the blue turf, a game the Broncos won 24 – 17. It was the Bulldogs’ first loss since their 21 – 14 defeat in week 2 against Minnesota, but Fresno State enters this game riding a modest 2-game win streak.

Boise State senior QB Brett Rypien came back for his final campaign to be in this moment; A ride off in the sunset with an Idaho crowd in full-throat behind him playing for a Mountain West Conference crown. Of course, a national title would have been something special too, but this would have been a major step towards getting to a big bowl anyway.
Fresno State Bulldogs
Fresno State was battling with San Diego State for the MWC West Division title when they took their trip to Boise State on November 10. Despite the 7-point loss on the blue turf, the Bulldogs had to quickly regroup to host San Diego State the following weekend, and win over the Aztecs cleared the path to the MWC Championship Game.
The Bulldogs covered 8 of their 12 regular season games this season, yet they were favored to win nearly every game this year.

The Minnesota road trip had the Bulldogs as a Pick Em, and that was their only other loss besides their trip to Boise, where they were indeed favored over the Broncos on the road.
Senior QB Marcus McMaryion has tasted victory over Boise State before, in a win that came in last year’s first meeting in Fresno, CA. McMaryion’s numbers this year have been outstanding, and his 3 interceptions all season long tells a good part of the story.
With 28 TD passes and well over 3,000 yards passing, McMaryion has completed over 70% of tosses in his final campaign as a Bulldog.
Boise State Broncos
Brett Rypien took MVP honors in last year’s Mountain West Conference Championship Game, and a New Years Six Bowl will look really nice for Broncos fans after having to settle for a Las Vegas Bowl appearance last season.
In the first meeting in November here in Boise, Rypien’s efficiency was on showcase as he completed 24 of his 29 attempts on the night.

Junior tailback Alexander Mattison had a night to remember as well, finding the end zone twice on 30 carries for 144 yards. Mattison’s last five games have seen him putting up ridiculous numbers, as the Broncos ride a 7-game win streak into the MWC title game. He has accumulated 714 yards over his last 5 games, averaging 142.8 yards over that span.
Senior wideout Sean Modster needs 67 yards to go over the century mark for the first and only time of his career. Fellow senior A.J Richardson has brought in 804 passing yards as well, so two games remaining could provide for the Broncos to end up with two 1000-yard receivers.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends

There are so many trends pointing to the under, and I cannot find one stat supporting a total to go Over in a Fresno State Boise State game. That’s what makes this fun because I am bucking the trend and expecting both offenses to provide the stories. I lean to the Over, but a play on the side sounds like a good choice too.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Boise State is favored at -2.5 with a 52,5 showing on the total. Free ATS or O/U final score pick provided below!
The Bronco injuries on defense to some rather significant players would certainly be of use this weekend. Whimpey, Moa, and Pierce are left as spectators, and that will have an impact on the outcome of this game. It’s amazing the Bronce defense did as much as it did without those 3 in the lineup for most of the season.
The Bulldogs to cover the +3 on the road and provide a possible upset is your 4* play of the game.
I expect a close game, and a field goal miss or make will be how this MWC title game comes to an end.
