In the first game in their newly named stadium, the Hurricanes will take on a sub division opponent in the Florida A&M Rattlers.
While there is a lot of unknowns when facing a sub division opponent, there are plenty of things to watch for. Brad Kaaya is a Heisman candidate for Miami and should lead a powerful offensive unit.

So whether or not the place you bet posts this line, you may not be able to bet this game. However, you should watch – at least early on – to see Kaaya. He is a potential NFL quarterback and will be a huge key to Miami’s success this season.
Florida A&M Rattlers
The Rattlers went 1-10 last season in the MEAC with their lone win coming over Delaware State. Last season, they played one FBS opponent and lost 51 to 3 to South Florida who finished 8-5 in 2015 playing in the AAC.
The Rattlers gave up 30 or more points in 7 of 11 games last season.

Florida A&M played at Miami in 2014 and lost 41-7 and they trailed 28-7 at halftime.
This isn’t a game where a FBS team is shocked and upset by an FCS team. The Rattlers are too inexperienced and don’t have anywhere near the talent to compete with Miami. Kaaya should pick apart their defense early and often.
If you want to bet Florida A&M in any way, take the risk and bet the first quarter line. Maybe they get a stop early on and a couple first downs to keep Miami within a couple of touchdowns. I imagine the first quarter line will be Miami favored by at least 14.5.
If you see something like 21.5 for the first quarter and think the Rattlers can keep it respectable for a quarter, go for it. But, betting on Florida A&M here is playing with fire.
Miami Hurricanes
I wouldn’t expect him to play much in the second half but watching Brad Kaaya play is the only reason to watch this game. Kaaya is a talented pocket passer with the ability to tuck the ball and pick up some first downs.
He should pick apart the Rattler defense mostly through the air though. I can’t imagine he will be under too much pressure. Aside from the enjoyment of watching Kaaya play, there are betting reasons to watch this game.
[dfads params=’groups=219&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
The first reason is the effects of what could follow if Miami were to play poorly. If Miami struggles, it will be because they overlook the Rattlers. The talent mismatch is massive and Miami has one of their more talented rosters in a few years.
So, if Miami plays poorly and Florida A&M keeps it reasonable – even if it is just for a half, Miami could lose some respect from
oddsmakers. This is where we make money. Miami follows this game with Florida Atlantic and Appalachian State.
If the lines get knocked down because of poor play by Miami early on, that will pay for Miami backers later in the season. They are capable of dismantling opponents this season so keep an eye on small spreads later in the season if Miami struggles early on.
However, I am not expecting this to be the game that will happen. Florida A&M is so weak that Miami could overlook them and still dominate them. FAU and App St are games that are more likely to be close because Miami overlooks its opponent.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends
- Miami has won the last 6 meetings by an average of 42 points
- Miami was 7-6 ATS last season
- Florida A&M has lost 9 of their last 10 overall
- Under is 3-1 in Miami’s last four games as a home favorite

The line isn’t out yet for these games but I am anticipating something around 50. The first half could be as high as 30. I am still
taking it. The Rattlers will probably struggle to even get first downs early on – giving the Hurricanes plenty of possessions.
Kaaya should pad his Heisman campaign early on with 5 plus touchdowns. The Hurricanes should roll in this first half before putting in the backups.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Miami ATS
Florida A&M is bad enough that even Miami’s backups could cover the full game depending on how high it is but I don’t like it as much as the first half.
Sportsmanship comes into play and Miami could just run the clock down.
