The Colorado State Rams and Nevada Wolfpack have had two weeks to prepare for their meeting at Mackay Stadium on Saturday night. As each team comes off their bye week, the quest to become bowl eligible is on the line for both squads.
The Colorado State Rams have the potential to go 6 – 6 and find their way to a bowl game, although it will take a perfect 3 – finish to the season to pull it off.
The Rams will face Utah State and Air Force after their encounter with Nevada, although they are listed as 2 TD underdogs this weekend on the road.

The Wolfpack have won their last two games, and could become bowl eligible with a win this weekend.
After a tough 4 point loss to Boise State left the Wolfpack facing a 3 – 4 record, wins over Hawaii and San Diego State have Nevada eyeing the post season.
Colorado State Rams
The Colorado State Rams were in a similar position to the Wolfpack just a few weekends ago. They too were 3 – 4, but two straight losses now have the Rams facing a 3 – 6 record coming into this weekend.
The issues for Colorado State start with the offense and end with the defense. It’s that simple, because they rank 124th running the ball, and 119th in points allowed on the other side of the ball.
The passing game has been the most consistent part of the offense this year, as the Rams rank 16th in the nation in passing yards per game (310.3).

It does appear, however, that the K.J Carta-Samuels project has come to an end, as Collin Hill has now assumed the starting QB role.
Hill put up decent numbers against Wyoming in the team’s last game two weekend ago. He ended up 35 for 54 with 333 yards, although he threw 2 picks and didn’t find the end zone once.
Wyoming came away with a 34 – 21 over the Rams, and jumped out to a 24 – 0 lead before the Rams responded.
Colorado State didn’t get on the board until the last minute of the 3rd quarter, although the offense had some success in the 4th quarter putting 14 points on the board.
Nevada Wolfpack
It is yet to be seen if the bye week will hurt or help the little momentum the Wolfpack gained after winning their last two games. It is, in fact, the only two-game win streak the Pack have in 2018, although a bowl bid awaits should they get past the Rams at home this weekend.
Senior QB Ty Gangi might have put up better numbers as a junior than he will end up putting up in his final year with the Wolfpack. Gangi produced 25 passing touchdowns and added 4 scores in the ground game a season ago. This year, his completion percentage is down from a year ago, and he has a 16 / 7 TD / INT ratio.
Another strange stat comes when you look at Nevada’s leading receivers in 2018. Kaleb Fossum has caught a team-leading 55 balls this year, which is 21 more than McLane Mannix’s 34 grabs.
[dfads params=’groups=219&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Mannix has found the end zone 6 times, while Fossum doesn’t even know what the end zone looks like. Fossum transferred over from Washington State, and has still never seen the end zone in his collegiate career, despite all the catches he’s made.
Elijah Cooks has found the end zone 5 times from Gangi as well, and he only has 19 catches on the season.
Freshmen Toa Taua wears #35 for the Wolfpack. He goes where the ball goes, or at least the ball finds him often enough. Watch for Taua to once again be involved in every aspect of the offense in this game. Dude is all over the field, and can run, throw, and catch anything that comes his way.
This total opened at 61, and in only two days has jumped 4 points to 65. Might that mean we could be expecting some points here?

The bye-week for both sides gives them time to address what needs to be corrected, but the talent hasn’t changed. These are the teams we think they are, and no one should expect defense to be a thing.
