2019 Football Preview – ACC Conference – Cavaliers
Looking for 2019 Virginia Cavaliers predictions? It seems that Virginia is a team that many are underestimating this season. They are coming off a strong season, are well coached and have the advantage of not being in a division with Clemson. They just might face the Tigers for the ACC title.

UVA has lots of experience and are poised to build on last year. They might even have a sneaky Heisman candidate.
2019 Virginia Cavaliers Predictions: Team Strengths
Bryce Perkins: I think it is fair to say that most people have not heard much about him. He is a phenomenal athlete with big hair who makes big plays.
Last season Perkins throw for over 2600 yards and rushed for over 900. This season he should best those totals and be a rare 3000/1000 guy.
Throw in an upset or an appearance in the conference title game and you have the makings of a Heisman candidate.

Helping out as well are three returning starters on the offensive line and a couple of returning receivers. Joe Reed averaged more than 18ypc last season.
Lots of Experience on D: That would be 7 starters returning from a group that gave up only 20ppg a year ago, 3rd in the ACC and 21st in the nation.
Jordan Mack is a fantastic middle linebacker. They play a 3-4 and he and Zane Zandier are one of the better duos in the country. Mack was second on the team in tackles a year ago.
Another Bryce, Bryce Hall led the nation in pass breakups a year ago. If he can grab some of those balls this season it will really help out the team. They generally have some ball hawkers in the secondary.
2019 Virginia Cavaliers Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Need More on the Ground: Even with Perkins 900+ yards and more than 1000 from departed Jordan Ellis the Cavs were just 10th in the league in rushing.
New top back PK Kier rushed only 26 times last season and was not very effective. He gained less yards than departed receiver Olamide Zaccheaus.
Virginia wants to play keep away with a strong ground attack and a punishing defense. They need the running game to accommodate that.

With a little more punch on the ground hopefully the Cavaliers can put more points on the board. They only average 28ppg last season, 10th in the ACC.
Even though there is a lot to like about the Cavs on defense they are missing their best player and playmaker from a year ago in Juan Thornhill, he led the team in tacks and interceptions.
They are stout on defense but will be hoping to find some more explosive plays. They also lose leading sackers from a year ago Chris Peace.
Virginia Cavaliers Prediction: 10-2
That is a pretty gaudy prediction I guess but that is in part due to a really manageable schedule.
They do start with a conference game at Pittsburgh which should be a win. Then William and Mary, Florida State and Old Dominion at home. FSU might be improved but that should be a 4-0 start.
Next come the losses, back to back road games against Notre Dame and Miami. I give them a chance to win each but that probably won’t happen. If it does the back half of the schedule is really light. The only road games are Louisville and North Carolina, neither of those teams is going to be strong this season.

The cool thing about Virginia is that they seem to have a really high floor this season. I can truly see a scenario where they are taking on Clemson in the ACC title game and they are both undefeated. That would be some wild fun.
