2019 Football Preview – PAC 12- Cardinal
Looking for 2019 Stanford Cardinal predictions? Stanford has had so much success that the level of expectation has really risen over the last 10 years. This year they have no Heisman hopeful returning and might be flying under the radar. One thing we do know is that if you doubt them, they will punch you in the mouth.

Stanford is a sleeper in the PAC 12 this season. They are also an experienced team so they should be in a lot of close games this season.
2019 Stanford Cardinal Predictions: Team Strengths
Strength Up Front: Last year Bryce Love got a lot of preseason hype. He did not live up to that billing, in part due to injury.
Also injured, but failing to make the same sort of headlines were members of the offensive line. Including a potential Top Ten pick in the 2020 draft.
Stanford has as good a reputation as anybody when it comes to cranking out offensive line talent. They are very confident this year’s group will live up to rep.

Not only should it make is very possible for a strong running game to emerge but it will give an emerging passing game a chance to win some contests.
Best QB in the League?: With all of the success the Cardinal have had it is usually based on a strong running game and a brutally physical defense.
This year, probably for the first time since Andrew Luck the Cardinal might have the best quarterback in the league in KJ Costello. A redshirt junior this is expected to be his last season on campus.
Last season he proved that he has more than enough arm talent to beat opponents through the air. He lost his top receiver to the NFL but the Cardinal probably have two NFL calibre tight ends on the roster and some other guys to catch passes. They can now play catchup too, when they need to.
2019 Stanford Cardinal Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Still Strong?: I may be setting a first here by talking about the strength coach of the Cardinal.
I am not sure of all the details I just know that the Stanford Cardinal strength coach is under investigation. I also know that he has been with the program since the Harbaugh days and that these guys have more influence than ever.
For a program that has prided itself on toughness and being physical it might be harder to move forward than you think. I think it could be a factor and perhaps a story that is hard to weave into the betting narratives.

How much can losing a punter make a difference.
For this program a lot. Their punter was selected in the fifth round by the Patriots so that says something. For a program that wants to do the field position thing that might make a lot of difference.
Now I have really done it, talking punters and strength coaches. This is going to be a good Stanford team. Probably not elite and the schedule is really tough.
Stanford Cardinal Prediction: 8-4
I think you can make a case that Stanford has the toughest schedule in the nation this season!
They could lose all three of their nonconference games which is kind of unheard of for a Power 5 team as they take on Northwestern and Notre Dame at home and visit UCF. Those are all good programs in good form.
The PAC 12 slate starts at USC and then home to Oregon for the first two. Those could be losses that really put them behind the eight ball early. The only gimme is a visit to Oregon State but road games can always be tricky.

A tough schedule also means that if things break right there could be a big time opportunity too. Their season finale at home against Notre Dame could have big implications for both sides and gives them something to play for even if the PAC 12 title is off the table at that point.
Expect this team to get better as the season progresses. They almost always do.
