Mountain West Conference 2019 Odds: Boise State EVEN
Boise State opens its season with a brutal Week 1 contest against Florida State, in Jacksonville. The bad news? It’s a likely loss any way you draw it up.
But there’s good news here if you’re a Bronco or a part of their national fan base: You could very well see this team go undefeated the rest of the season.

An August 19 matchup against BYU could be a big challenge, but outside of that, there are a lot of surefire wins on the schedule for Boise State.
The Broncos, barring significant health concerns mid-to-late season, will be the favorites from Game 1 until the end of the season.
Mountain West Conference 2019 Odds: Fresno State +400
Fresno State has lost eight starters on offense, and yet, it remains a second-place projection in the conference. That’s a testament to the team’s depth and coaching, if not a slight indictment on the rest of the Mountain West.

The big question for this team might just be whether or not junior college transfer Jorge Reyna is ready to take the reigns. At quarterback, the 6’0″, 215-pound now-starter can make plays outside the pocket and could help the team transition out of the Marcus McMaryion era nicely. But any time you’re throwing a new body and new mind into a team that’s expected to compete for a conference title, it has to be considered more of a wild card than a sure thing.
Mountain West Conference 2019 Odds: San Diego State +450
San Diego State has seven starters on offense returning from last year. Good news, right?
Maybe.
Last year, San Diego State was 11th on the sport’s more glamorous side of the field. It fell flat in so many areas you almost wish for their sake their was a shakeup coming. Alas, this group has the “luxury” of returning a group that was just 100th in total yards and 120th in points per game.
The good news is that it’s tough to get worse than that, and more experience really only can be a good thing. Combine that with the fact that the defense—led by one of the best safety groups you’ll find—can be a whole lot better than it was much of last season, and you have a team that can look much closer to EVEN than +450 when the year comes to a close.
Mountain West Conference 2019 Odds: Utah State +800
[dfads params=’groups=219&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
This is where we see a steep fall from the tier-1 and tier-2 competitors in this conference, but Utah State at +800 is in a category all of its own as far as tier-3 teams are concerned. Immediately after Utah State, Air Force is the best remaining team at +1400.
Jordan Love behind center will be among the top quarterbacks to come back this season. His completion rate is strong, he gets the ball out of his hands quickly and he can be a leader on a big-time roster.
Here’s the catch (slight pun intended): His top five receivers are gone. This year will prove just how valuable Love can be, and whether or not he can truly elevate the talent around him at the receiver position.

Mountain West Conference: 2019 Prediction
The Mountain West Conference should surprise some people this season as far as parity from top to bottom goes. The conference will be deeper than some expect.
But as far as that parity is concerned, there’s a very distinct asterisk that states it will largely take place from No. 2 down. Boise State with EVEN odds makes perfect sense and should prove the right call by the end of the season.
As mentioned above, don’t be shocked if the Broncos slip in Game 1 at a tough venue across the country against a big-time program. And then don’t blink, because a whole bunch of wins (potentially through the end of the season) will immediately follow.
