2019 Football Preview – SEC Conference – LSU Tigers
Looking for 2019 LSU Tigers predictions? Last season the Tigers took another step toward national contender status. LSU’s 2018 was crowned by lockdown defense, wins against UGA and Auburn, and a Fiesta Bowl victory over then-unbeaten Central Florida. Ed Orgeron’s men finished the year ranked seventh nationally, the school’s highest final ranking since 2011. This season LSU looks to parlay that momentum by increasing offensive productivity while competing with Alabama and Auburn for SEC, and FBS, superiority.

Returning fifteen starters from 2018, to mix with capable reserves and a talented incoming recruiting class, expectations are boiling over in Death Valley.
2019 LSU Tigers Predictions: Team Strengths
Coaching Staff Addition: Former New Orleans Saints offensive assistant Joe Brady was hired this offseason to bolster a passing game which disappeared vs. Florida and Alabama. Brady will employ his run-pass option brand attack with senior QB Joe Burrow. Burrow proved an accurate passer (16 TD, 5 INT, 2,894 passing yards) and fleet-footed rusher (399 yards, 7 rushing TD) in 2018. Further, the former Ohio State Buckeye says he’s run a version of Brady’s offense since age 13.
That familiarity should bode well with returning recievers Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, Stephen Sullivan, Derrick Dillon and coveted five-star recruit Terrace Marshall.
As a bonus, number two nationally-ranked running back recruit John Emery Jr. will cross opposing defenses up while running behind a bulky, experienced offensive line.
This Tigers offense has every ingredient to be the school’s best in years.

Defense: LSU returns eight starters from a group which ranked 22nd nationally in points against last season. DT Rashard Lawrence is set for a breakout senior campaign. Lawrence will helm a Tigers front featuring impact players returning from injury such as Breiden Fehoko and K’Lavon Chaisson; holdovers Jacob Phillips and Michael Divinity Jr.; and newcomers Jarell Cherry, Chasen Hines and Travez Moore, among others. LSU’s list of incoming four-star defensive recruits is indeed impressive.
However, the team’s secondary is its crown jewel. SS Grant Delpit is a projected next-level defender. Delpit and junior JaCoby Stevens, CB Kristian Fulton and impact freshman CB Derek Stingley Jr. will all disrupt opposing aerial games.
2019 LSU Tigers Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Schedule: Sandwiched in the nation’s toughest conference, LSU is a perennial ‘strength of schedule leader.’ However, this season’s slate is especially challenging.
Game two sees the Tigers visit UGA-slayer Texas. From there, LSU faces Florida, Mississippi State Auburn and Texas A&M -though their road cauldron vs. Alabama will decide if LSU is truly a National Championship contender.

After manhandling Georgia last season, this LSU bunch is capable of beating any team on any given Saturday. Though, consistency will be key as the Tigers don’t have the luxury of weeks off when their schedule hits the halfway point. Further, a slip to Arkansas or Ole Miss would be disastrous.
LSU Tigers Prediction: 10-2
There’s ample reason to be bullish on this year’s LSU Tigers: they return their accomplished offensive line, employ a coveted offensive guru, have an experienced, multifaceted QB, exceptional defense and elite recruiting class.
This team could develop into the SEC’s most complete by season’s end.

However, as mentioned, the Tigers’ road game vs. Alabama is a daunting task. Outside of that contest, even when considering home meetings against Auburn and Florida, LSU is favored in every matchup except their rendezvous with Alabama.
However, if the Tigers mesh to their potential, only Bama stands in their way of an undefeated season and the spoils which come with it.
