2019 Football Preview – Big 12- Wildcats
Looking for 2019 Kansas State Wildcats predictions? Kansas State is finally saying good bye for good to their most successful coach in school history. I love that instead of going with a hot shot coordinator from a power program they have taken one of the most successful coaches from the FCS ranks. They should definitely be more interesting this season.

This is not a good team but I expect them to be competitive and get better as the season progresses.
2019 Kansas State Wildcats Predictions: Team Strengths
A New Direction: Building on the intro Klieman was a massive success at North Dakota State.
He was the head coach there for five seasons and they won four championships. He might have built on what Craig Bohl did but that is still awesome, especially with the way programs work at that level.
One thing to note is that those teams were elite on both offense and defense and have not necessarily been throwing the ball around with abandon the way some teams do.

I am a firm believer that this is going to work. It is still Kansas State so they are not going to win a national championship but they will cover some games because on the sidelines these guys are smart.
The O Line has Experience: As much as coaches want to turn things over and around quickly that cannot happen in college sports. It will help KSU that they have a solid offensive line on which to start building.
They lost their best starter from a year ago to the NFL – a second round pick – but four starters project to be seniors. To me that means they can learn and assimilate the new schemes more quickly.
Best of all the most talented and experienced member of the group is at left tackle – Scott Frantz – wh looks like he will be in the NFL too.
2019 Kansas State Wildcats Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Defensive Returns: In terms of production the charts look good on the defensive side of the ball.
However, the Big 12 is a league with lots of strong offenses and the Wildcats are looking for playmakers on defense.
Reggie Walker collected 7.5 sacks last season. That is a nice total but he is hardly the type that you need to gameplan around. Duke Shelley was all conference at cornerback last season and had three picks but there is nobody at that level replacing him. Which will make it harder for Walker and others up front.

Klieman is not the first coach to make it all about hard work and winning the day. That stuff plays well as long as there are some results.
This team is going to lose more games this season then he did in five years at North Dakota State (just six losses). While I like him a lot that can wear on a team and a program.
I do expect this to be one of the most fundamentally sound programs in America. They were under Snyder and there is not reason for that to change.
Kansas State Wildcats Prediction: 4-8
The non conference is not too taxing with games against Nicholls State and Bowling Green to start. At Mississippi State is too tall a task this season.
In the Big 12 there is only one team that they are obviously better than and that is Kansas. They are at the Jayhawks though and that could be a coin flip in terms of the spread. They have to get that game or else the staff will feel some heat.
They have home games against TCU, Baylor, Iowa State and West Virginia. This is a group they need at least one win against to make it feel like progress is being made. They are probably underdogs in all of them though.

The opener against Nicholls and maybe even the following week against Bowling Green might make things look better than they really are. Look to back the Wildcats in home dog situations once their level is more established.
