2019 Big 12 Season Football Preview
Looking for 2019 Big 12 Conference predictions? Oklahoma has been a strong representative of the conference of late, winning Heismans and making it to the playoffs. This season Texas might give them their strongest challenge in a while but the rest of the league looks very bunched up around the middle. Save Kansas of course.

Big 12 Conference 2019 Odds: Oklahoma Sooners -125
Oklahoma is looking to take a fourth straight championship in the Big 12…and a third straight Heisman.
If either happens it will be in large part due to former Alabama QB Jalen Hurts, who transferred in this offseason.

Hurst is probably not the decision maker that Baker Mayfield was nor the supreme athlete that Kyler Murray was. He is probably in the middle and at the same time a proven winner.
The other big addition this season came off the field in the form of highly thought of defensive coordinator Alex Grinch. He will try and balance this team out a bit.
Grinch will be lucky to oversee a defensive unit that returns nearly intact from a year ago. They can be a lot better this season.
Some thought that last year’s offensive line might have been the best ever. Either way this group has some shoes to fill to keep that offense humming.
Oklahoma is the strongest team in the league. They have all of their toughest league games outside Norman – at Iowa State, at West Virginia and the Red River Rivalry on a neutral against Texas.
Big 12 Conference 2019 Odds: Texas Longhorns +250
It seems like the entire football world is waiting for Texas to be back. I am not sure they are there yet but they are getting closer.
They are no in year three under coach Tom Herman and they have a lot of reasons to feel good about this upcoming season.

Sam Ehlinger is a sleeper for the Heisman this season. The Longhorns don’t have the prolific system of OU but Ehlinger is good and he is going to get lots of opportunities. He has some good weapons outside too.
Up front they are breaking in some new starters but Ehlinger is able to create plays when he needs to so that is not a huge worry.
The biggest concern coming into the season is the defense, which was better two seasons ago. Todd Orlando has to get this group back to being the best in the league.
Texas has easy road trips this season and the round robin nature and top two championship game format gives them a great chance to be in the title game even if they lose to Oklahoma.
Big 12 Conference 2019 Odds: West Virginia Mountaineers +1000
It says a lot about the state of the B12 that West Virginia is being given the third best odds to win the league.
For starters they are replacing their coach, going with Neal Brown from Troy. I love the hire but this is his first time as a head coach at a Power 5 program.
They are also looking to replace their starting quarterback and huge chunks of their offense from last year at a place that is not normally plug and play.
Brown is a good coach and I am confident that he gets it figured out to where this team is challenging at least once per cycle but this seems too fast for me. .
They do have a favourable schedule with Oklahoma visiting to close the season. I am just not sure they have the horses to make that one meaningful.
Big 12 Conference 2019 Odds: Iowa State Cylones +1100
A little bit of a surprise to see Iowa State ahead of so many other bigger name programs in terms of odds.
Matt Campbell has done a great job since coming to Ames. The Cyclones have won 8 games in back to back seasons and that is rare.
You might not know the name Brock Purdy but he was really good last season. He might have grabbed the job due to injury but now has it firmly and has shown he can produce.

With the QB situation in good hands the question remains whether they can have balance on offense. David Montgomery was underrated to the point of becoming an NFL prospect. The next man up in the backfield has some big shoes to fill.
Similarly WR Hakeem Butler used Iowa State to build an NFL profile, another indicator of the job that Campbell is doing. Purdy is good but he needs help.
Other than a trip to Texas the Cyclones have their toughest games at home. They have a great chance of stealing a game along the way too. They have done so in the past. Depending on who they beat maybe they sneak up into that second spot.
Big 12 Conference 2019 Odds

- Texas +250
- West Virginia +1000
- Iowa State +1100

Big 12 Conference: 2019 Prediction
Oklahoma -125. I hate going chalk on these kinds of things but I don’t see how the Sooners are not in the title game and odds are they will be playing a team they have beaten once already this season. The odds are not scaring me off too much.
