2018 Football Preview – Mountain West – Lobos
Looking for 2018 New Mexico Lobos predictions? The Lobos endured a very brutal 2017. It was one filled with lots of injuries and an offense that was never in sync. The Lobos need a leader on the offensive side of the ball, as they gear up for another season in the Mountain West.

A lot has been going on both on and off the field for the New Mexico Lobos, as they gear up for another season under the lights. Can they have a fast start? Or will they fall right back into a hole like they have shown the past years.
2018 New Mexico Lobos Predictions: Team Strengths
No More Yards: Even though the New Mexico Lobos had one of the worst seasons in the MWC last season, they did improve on the defensive side of the ball.
It was a small improvement to say the least, but they must add onto this success into the upcoming season. Right now defensive coordinator Kevin Cosgrove is doing great things in New Mexico as he changed the way they attack the offense.
Last season they had allowed the fewest yards per game in the past ten years, but they still gave the opposing teams tons of chances to score.

Coming into the season, the Lobos are going to need much more than cutting down their yards allowed especially since they have a list of weaknesses.
2018 New Mexico Lobos Team Weaknesses:
Takeaways: As mentioned above, the Lobos improved their defense by cutting down their yards allowed per game, however they are not changing the field in a matter of a play.
This is where they hit rock bottom. They were one of the best takeaway defensives back in 2014-2015, however they only had a total of 26 takeaways for the past two years combined.

Without changing the field, they stay on the field longer and give out free passes to the redzone.
No more running game: It seems the Lobos are starting to fade away from their strong running game as they once were one of the best running attacks in CFB two years ago.
Now they are adding a new style of offense they will include more pass options hoping to expand the playbook. At the moment there is nothing important on the offensive side besides the running game. They must run the rock.
New Mexico Lobos Prediction: 3-9
I’m not impressed by this team, as I can see them finishing in their conference near last. Also with the head coach problems off the field, they will also play a factor on the season.
They need to start creating takeaways in order to help the offense out as they rarely can go the full distance.

This could very well be a disaster season for the New Mexico Lobos.
