2018 Football Preview – Big 12 – Cyclones
Looking for 2018 Iowa State Cyclones predictions? The Cyclones burst on the scene out of nowhere last year with their up and coming head coach Matt Campbell. Many believed that Campbell would leave to a bigger program after the season, but instead, he signed a new six year contract extension, and the future looks really bright in Ames.

Will the Cyclones be able to build off the success of last year, or will they take a step backwards?
2018 Iowa State Cyclones Predictions: Team Strengths
Sixth Year Quarterback: Cyclones quarterback Kyle Kempt was given a sixth year of eligibility and that is a very good thing for their chances this year.
He bounced around college football and actually walked on in Ames in 2016. He kind of came out of nowhere last year and led the Cyclones to a 6-3 record.
He also set the Cyclones single-season completion percentage, completing 66 percent of his passes. He threw for 1473 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also did a good job of not turning the ball over, only throwing three interceptions total.

He is one of the smarter quarterbacks this team has ever had, and this season is going to be in good hands with Kempt at quarterback.
Running Wild: The Cyclones also have a star in the backfield, in David Montgomery, and he will be running wild again this year.
Last year he rushed for 1094 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also averaged 8.2 yards per carry, and he should actually be able to improve on that in this game.
The one question is who is going to be his backup, because at times he has gotten worn down, and someone needs to help take some of the load off.
2018 Iowa State Cyclones Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Who’s the Leader?: The big question this year is who is going to replace Joel Lanning, who is one of the best leaders the Cyclones have ever seen.
After getting benched from the quarterback position, he switched to defense and was a star on that side of the football.
There is going to need to be someone on the defensive side of the ball that can step up and lead this team, because if there isn’t the defense could lack some sort of identity.

Young Wide Recievers: The Cyclones have good wide receivers, but they are young, and that could hurt them in terms of consistency.
They need some of the young guys to step up, and take the production of the guys who left last year, and were so important to the team.
Iowa State Cyclones Prediction: 8-4
The Iowa State Cyclones had a lot of production last year, and I think they get a lot of that back from last year, and I think that will continue over into this year.
They have their quarterback position figured out, and that is going to be key in this season, as long as he can stay healthy.

The Big 12 is going to be a little better this year, and I think they will have a few slip ups. Overall it’s still going to be a very good fall in Ames.
