Entering 2018, CU sits at 40/1 to win the Pac-12. That puts them in the conference’s penultimate spot ahead of only the Oregon State Beavers (100/1).
2018 Colorado Buffaloes Predictions: Team Strengths
Schedule: We’ll get to on-field analysis soon enough. Don’t you worry. But when it comes to the Buffaloes and their potential success this season, you have to start with their schedule.
Despite having to play at both USC and Washington in back-to-back weeks (Saturday Oct. 13, Saturday Oct. 20), CU has five conference games at home. A road contest in Week 2 against Nebraska will be a good litmus test for this program.
Colorado needs all the momentum it can get before beginning conference play, but a revitalized Nebraska program will give us an idea as to whether or not we can expect the Buffaloes to track toward a bowl game this season.

Surprising receiving corps: The Buffaloes are entering 2018 without its receiving corps from last season—one of the best groups on the outside this program has ever seen. And yet, CU is in good shape.
Juwann Winfree and Laviska Shenault are going to be big time targets and Jay MacIntyre has a chance to establish himself as a household name in the conference.
Fresh Backfield: The Buffaloes have a similar situation at running back. They are without Phillip Lindsay, but Travon McMillian is ready to step in as a transfer.
The tailback totaled 2,153 yards on the ground during his stint as a Virginia Tech Hokie and should be the No. 1 option in the rushing attack for the Buffaloes.
2018 Colorado Buffaloes Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Buffs must get defensive: There’s no sugar-coating this. The Buffaloes must get defensive for them to return to a bowl game in 2018.

Last season, CU was just 109th when defending opposing run attacks, giving up 208 yards per game in that category. The Buffaloes were also just 102nd in sacks, 105th in forced turnovers, 90th in yards allowed per contest, 88th in passing yards allowed and 76th in points per game given up (28.2).
Colorado Buffaloes Prediction: 6-6
The Buffaloes are going to look like a borderline bowl team all season. Yes, there will be outliers when they inevitably fall big to true contenders or crush competitors that have far less talent. But you can expect this team to both play up and play down to its competition.

Arizona State will likely bring it up the Pac-12 South rear, leaving Colorado and UCLA competing to avoid the division’s second-to-last spot.
Look at Colorado’s Friday, Sept. 28 contest vs. the Bruins as an early-season game with plenty of late-season implications.
