2017 Football Preview – Mountain West – Wolf Pack
Looking for 2017 Nevada Wolf Pack predictions? The Wolf Pack bring in Jay Norvell, and entirely new offensive and defensive coaching staffs. If the Wolf Pack want to get back to the days of Colin Kapernick, the team must adjust accordingly through camp. This could be asking for a lot, but the Nevada staff is faithful in what they will bring to the Mountain West Conference in 2017.

New offense? New defense? New coaching staff? No problem?
2017 Nevada Wolf Pack Predictions: Team Strengths
Air Raid Offense: Ty Gangi was the starting quarterback for the Wolf Pack last season. Gangi passed for 1,301 yards, eight touchdowns and six interceptions. The dual threat, came into spring looking more accurate from the pocket, but will likely be the backup once the season begins.
David Cornwell should take the reigns at QB for the Wolf Pack this season.
Cornwell will fit perfect in Norvell’s air raid attack offense this season. The Alabama transfer is 6-5 228 pounds, and sound in the pocket. It will be interesting to see how he develops as the number one with Nevada.

With Expectations high at QB, Cornwell will will be missing a big part of the offense. Running Back James Butler’s 1,336 yards and 12 touchdowns. The former play maker took his talents to Iowa this year.
Offensive Tackle/Receivers: Teams don’t talk a lot about offensive tackles, but left tackle Austin Corbett is an all conference talent. He will be relied on heavily to protect Cornwell. As for the rest of the line, there are some questions that need to be answered. Sean Krepsz returns to add leadership, while Marshall Levins and Anthony Palomars are added from junior colleges for more O line depth.
Wyatt Demps will return as the top wide out in the air raid offense. He accounted for more than half of Ty Gangi’s passing yards last season. Demps had 686 yards receiving and nine touchdowns last year.
Andrew Celis and running back Jaxson Kincade will join Demps as the secondary weapons for Cornwell this year. Both players rank in top five, as the best offensive players on the Wolf Pack.
2017 Nevada Wolf Pack Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Can the defense stop the run/New defense: The Nevada Wolf Pack run defense gave up an unbelievable 297 yards on the ground per game last year! Ranking the Wolf Pack last in stopping the run in the Nation.

If the defense wants to get better, it will start with senior defensive end, Malik Reed. Reed is the teams best defensive player. He looks to repeat a solid 2016 season. Reed had 59 tackles, five sacks and 9.5 tackles for a loss.
Gabriel Sewell will be a help at middle linebacker along with Hausia Sekona at nose tackle and freshman Kameron Toomer at linebacker, should help the run defense get better. ranking last in the nation last year.
New defensive coordinator, Jeff Casteel will be changing the defensive scheme from a 4-3 to a 3-5-5 in 2017. Casteel ran the 3-5-5 at West Virginia and Arizona with success at defensive coordinator.
The new 3-5-5 defense Casteel is implementing on the Wolf Pack defense, should fit to Nevada’s talented secondary. Safeties Asauni Rufuas, Dameon Baber and Jaden Sawyer round out the Wolf Pack as the team best defensive players.
Add in Senior defensive back Kendall Johnson and the Wolf Pack look loaded in the secondary.
Nevada Wolf Pack Prediction: 5-7
Nevada has a ton of questions that need to be answered in live play.
With the Wolf Pack completely overhauling the offense and defense, everyone involved in the Nevada program is in for a change. Change can be good as long as there is success.

Barely missing a Bowl games last season, the Wolf Pack must stop the run in order to get more wins.
With an unproven quarterback and a defense that can’t stop a leak, the Wolf Pack will fall short of bowl season again this year.
