2017 Football Preview – Pac-12 – Buffaloes
Looking for 2017 Colorado Buffaloes predictions? The Buffaloes put together an impressive campaign in 2016. Their 10 wins were as many victories as they’d compiled over the past three seasons combined. They also went 8-1 in conference en route to a Pac-12 South Division title.

Now Colorado needs to prove that A) This 10-win season wasn’t a fluke, and B) It can produce similar success after replacing a four-year quarterback.
2017 Colorado Buffaloes Predictions: Team Strengths
Quarterback Consistency: Sefo Liufau is gone. He will always be credited as playing a major role in CU’s turnaround, but now it’s time to move on and establish a new face of the program—something that could prove to be as difficult as it is ambitious.

All that said, the passing game shouldn’t really skip a beat in 2017. Steven Montez proved he could put up nice numbers when Liufau went down. He’s a young quarterback with a lot of potential, but while potential is great, his proven experience in this system is even more valuable as far as 2017 is concerned.
With a strong offensive line and incredible depth back in the receiving corps, Colorado will look to make the passing game another strength.
Wide Receiver: Speaking of the receiving corps…
If the Colorado offense stands a chance of being as good as it was last year, it’s going to be because of this ultra-reliable group of receivers. In fact, with the team having as many returners as it has, there’s a strong possibility this team could be even more dangerous on offense.
That especially translates to big-play potential. And it’s going to be a huge reason why quarterback consistency is a strength instead of a question mark next season.
2017 Colorado Buffaloes Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Defensive Question Marks: Calling the Colorado defense a weakness after it was top 20 a season ago isn’t fair. So we’re not going to do it.
We are, however, going to admit and recognize that there are questions this group needs to answer.

For starters, how is it going to respond following the departure of Jim Leavitt to Oregon. D.J. Eliot from Kentucky is taking over, and he’s entering a situation that is also reeling from the loss of two assistants and eight starters.
The good news for Colorado is that he’s going to keep the sam 3-4 scheme in place for 2017. This group still has talent, and running the same system will be a huge plus.
But as we stated before: As much potential as this team has on the point-preventing side of the ball, there are variable at play that make it a worthy question mark as far as elite competition is concerned.
Colorado Buffaloes Prediction: 8-4
A slight regression is expected this season. Ten wins was, quite frankly, a bit of an anomaly, and while this team is far better off than it was just two years ago, a bit of a dip down should be on the horizon.
[dfads params=’groups=219&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
All that said, Colorado fans shouldn’t see that as a bad thing. For starters, a slight dip from a 10-win season means you’re still a strong competitor. And if we’re being honest, most teams that lose its defensive coordinator and its four-year starting quarterback would see an even bigger drop.
But this team still has talent on defense, it still has a versatile running back and incredibly deep receiving coprs, and it also has a quarterback who should step into the system seamlessly after what we saw last year.
Seven wins might be more realistic for this team considering how deep the Pac-12 goes this season, but we’re giving it the benefit of the doubt.
Chalk the Buffaloes up for eight wins this season.
