2017 Football Preview – Mountain West – Falcons
Looking for 2017 Air Force Falcons predictions? The Falcons had a very nice 2016 season finishing with a 10-3 record and a 45-21 victory over South Alabama in the Alabama Bowl. That bowl win was nice but the biggest accomplishment for this squad was winning the Commander-in-Chief trophy, handed out each year to the military school with the best record against each other. Air Force beat Army and Navy last year.

2017 Air Force Falcons Predictions: Team Strengths
Quarterback locked down: The Air Force Falcons don’t have an issues at the quarterback position. Arion Worthman is expected to be the starting quarterback in his junior year.
In his sophomore year he had a lot of success. He finished with 546 yards passing and 674 yards rushing and six touchdowns. The 674 yards put him third on the team in rushing.

He seems to have a really good grips on the Falcons triple option offense, and led the team to a lot of success. He also seems like a really good leader in the locker room.
The only thing that he could improve on is his interceptions. He threw two interceptions in just 39 attempts.
Crowded Backfield: When a team runs the triple options, they have to have a lot of good running backs that can handle the load, of a rush heavy attack.
Coming into the season the Falcons seem like they will have no issues having a lot of guys, and a lot of good rushers who will be hard for opposing defenses.
The leader of the rushing attack will be Senior Timothy McVey. Last year he rushed for 708 yards and 10 touchdowns.
He is a guy who can break it loose at anytime and opposing defenses always have to treat him like a huge threat. He also had two receiving touchdowns, so he is a guy that they have to respect in the passing game.
2017 Air Force Falcons Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Who’s Left On Defense?: There is a lot of questions coming into this season for the Falcons, about their defense.
They were a very Senior heavy team last year on the defensive side and that has resulted in them needing to replace a lot of guys on this years team.
Coming into the year they need to find replacements for ten starters off last years team. Now the defense wasn’t great last year against strong passing teams, but they did a great job stopping the run.

The back end of the defense this year is going to be extremely young, and that might make for a few rough games early, if the guys don’t step up big early.
The Falcons also need to be a lot better getting off the field on third down. Last year they let opposing teams convert 43.5 percent of third down tries.
IF they want to have the same type of success they had last season, they need to lower that third down conversion rate quite a bit.
Air Force Falcons Prediction: 7-5
The Air Force Falcons play in a tough Mountain West conference and I think that will hurt them this year. They also get a date in their second game of the season at the big house against the Michigan Wolverines.
I think with such a young defense their is going to be a lot of growing pains early on, and that will make for some interesting first couple of games of the year.

I think this season will still be deemed a success though. I think that they will make a bowl game, and I still see them as the favorites for the Commander-In-Chief trophy.
I think they will finish with a 7-5 record and a Commander-In-Chief trophy in hand.
