The Blue Bombers will kick off their 2017 season on the road at the new Mosaic Stadium in Regina.
The Roughriders opened their season with a tough 17-16 loss at the hands of the Montreal Alouettes, but will look to even the record at home in the matchup against the Prairie counterparts.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The Bombers are coming off of an 11-7 season a year ago, where they finished 3rd in the West Division behind Calgary and BC. They will look to replicate their excellent road record from last year, where the team finished 7-2 away from home.

Matt Nichols will be under center yet again, the QB returning from a year where he went 10-3 and earned an off-season contract. He’ll look to dish off to veteran receiver, and former Roughrider, Weston Dressler, who is one of the most storied receivers in CLF history.
Dressler ranks 28th overall all time in CFL receiving yards and is still just 31 years of age. He finished last year with 80 catches and 1,003 yards.

The backbone of the offense is veteran RB, Andrew Harris, who finished third overall in total yards last season with 1,608 combined between rushing and receiving.
While playing alongside Nichols, Harris rushed for an average of 5.42 YPC..
Saskatchewan Roughriders
The Riders will play their first game in their new home, Mosaic Stadium, which by all accounts is a top-of-the-line facility.
While they will have to face former Rider great, Weston Dressler, they will have their own CFL great from their rivals, QB Kevin Glenn. Glenn signed in the off-season after being released by the Bombers, so he’ll clearly be playing with a chip on his shoulder.
Glenn threw for 298 yards in the opener in a solid performance despite the loss. The 38-year veteran sits top-10 all-time in CFL passing yards and is a surefire Hall of Famer.

The Riders’ defense finished last season second overall in points allowed per game, at 30, but dead last in interceptions, failing to record any. They also finished second last in Sacks with only two on in 2016.
The defense will need to focus on disturbing the opposing offense more with the pass rush and forcing turnovers if the Riders look to make a run at the Grey Cup this season.
CFL Betting Trends:
- Kevin Glenn is 7th all-time in CFL pass yards with 48,782
- Winnipeg finished last in Sacks in 2016 with just one on the year
- Matt Nichols was 10-3 last season as the Bombers’ starting QB
- Andrew Harris finished 3rd last season with 974 rushing yards, though he did so in just 15 games
- Winnipeg won both meeting between the two teams last season
4* Free CFL Betting Prediction: Saskatchewan Moneyline
The Riders have every reason to be fired up for the start of a new era, with Kevin Glenn under center, and in a sparkly new home stadium.
Glenn faces his former team who released the future Hall of Famer in the off-season, and he’ll be looking to prove the Bombers wrong for doing so.
Grey Cup Free Score Prediction: Winnipeg 20 – Saskatchewan 25
While Harris is one of the best RBs in the league, but I think Glenn puts the Riders on his shoulders and outduels the Bombers’ offense, and takes it to the Bombers’ defense who failed to record an INT and a Winnipeg team that ranked second-last in possession time.
