Grey Cup Futures Handicapping
Looking for 2016 Grey Cup Odds? We are at the half-way point of the CFL season and the cream is already starting to rise to the top. There have been some nice surprises and some true disappointments this year – I’m talking to you Saskatchewan Roughriders!
So which teams have the best chance of hoisting Canadian Football’s Holy Grail? Let’s take a look.
2016 Grey Cup Odds
British Columbia Lions 4/1
The Lions weren’t the preseason favorites but with a record of 6-3 at the halfway point they have become the betting darlings – and why not?
QB Jonathon Jennings has been a true revelation, Anthony Allen (who rushed for 76 yards on 13 carries last week) has been good, the defense has done its part and then there is Wally Buono – the winningest Coach in CFL history.

BC is 4-1 on the road and is solid in every aspect of the game. That said they are the second best team in the West – right behind…
Calgary Stampeders 9/2
With a record of 7-1-1 and an eight game unbeaten streak the Stamps, just like in the preseason are my pick to win it all this year.
There isn’t a whole lot NOT to like about this team this year – they can win the shootout and they can win the low-scoring defensive battles as well.
Bo Levi Mitchell continues to be one of the best pivots in the game and is second currently in the league in passing with 15 TDs and just 4 Int., Jerome Messam is currently second in the league in rushing and the defense just keeps getting it done.
Top-to-bottom there is no better team in the game – good value as the second betting choice!
Edmonton Eskimos 9/2
The Eskimos are coming on – they have won three straight games ahead of this week.

They have the top passer in the league Mike Reilly and the emergence of running back Shakir Bell (18 rushes for 138 yards last week) has everyone in the league on notice that Eskimos suddenly have a running game.
John White is no slouch in the backfield either. That said Edmonton has two better teams in the West – BC and Calgary whom they face in a huge matchup this week.
Ottawa Red Blacks 9/2
Ottawa is slumping as we hit the half-way point of the season – two straight losses as we head into this week. The team isn’t sneaking up on anybody this year – the opposition simply aren’t taking them for granted.
The Trevor Harris/Henry Burris QB carousel threatens to derail Ottawa’s season – not sure what to make of this team in 2016.
Right now Ottawa is near the bottom of the league in rushing and in passing – definite concern going forward!
Hamilton Tigercats 11/2
The Tiger-Cats are just 4-5 this season – a bit of a disappointment but on paper this team looks like the best in the East. Zach Collaros has finally returned from injury making Hamilton one of the most dangerous pass-happy offenses in the game.
He threw for 439 yards and 3 TDs last week in a loss to Calgary and receiver Terrance Toliver has 322 yards in his last two games.
With other weapons like Luke Tasker and Chad Owens in the passing game and CJ Gable in the backfield Hamilton is a scary team – my pick to come out of the East.
Toronto Argonauts 6/1
The Argos are a .500 team at the half-way point and have lost two straight games ahead of this weekend and having lost two straight games at home.
Ricky Ray still exists for this unflattering team but not much else has gone right.
Toronto is getting healthier by the day but that doesn’t seem to mean a whole lot.
Montreal Alouettes 10/1
Montreal plays good defense but everything else on this team is inconsistent to say the least. Need proof? QB Kevin Glenn threw 5 TDs two weeks ago and recorded four interceptions last week.
Montreal has lost nine of its last 11 games at home – not exactly a recipe for CFL success.
Simply put there are better teams in the East and in the league for that matter to spend your money on.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers 10/1
How about some value? Look no further than the Winnipeg Blue Bombers who at 5-4 have been the surprise of the league so far.

They have won four straight heading into the week – a different team since QB Matt Nichols took over.
Andrew Harris continues to lead the CFL in rushing and the defense has 17 interceptions on the season so far. If defense and a running game win championships Winnipeg has a chance.
At 10/1 they are the best value on the board.
Saskatchewan Roughriders 12/1
With a 1-8 record the Riders have become a joke – on both sides of the ball!
