But I don’t think that matters, I think they are the best team in the conference, and they will raise the Big Ten Championship trophy for the second year in a row.
Here are five reasons why the hype is real in 2017.
Reasons Penn State Will Win The Big 10
A Star at Quarterback
Sophomore Trace McSorley had 3164 yards passing and 29 touchdowns. Although he struggled a bit at the beginning of the season towards the end he looked like an NFL quarterback.

He seems to always make the right decision with the ball, and if he is able to take another step forward this year, he will probably be the best quarterback in the Big Ten, and one in all the country.
He is the key to this team repeating, and I think he will live up to all the expectations.
Running Back Is A Star
Saquon Barkley is already star, and after breaking onto the scene last year, people are expecting he will even have a bigger year this year.
Barkley was fantastic in 2016 coming out of the backfield. He ran for 1496 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also had 402 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

He is one of the most electrifying backs that Penn State has ever had and will probably be a first round pick in the NFL Draft.
Experienced Defense
On the defensive side the Nittany Lions are young, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be experienced.
Penn State dealt with a lot of injuries last year, but that is actually going to help them this year. They had to have a lot of young guys step up, and that is going to really be a strength this year.
They have a lot of Sophomores that will be key players this year, after playing in almost all of the games last year.
Motivation
This team is going to have all kinds of motivation going into the season. After winning the title last year, they should be the favorites to win the title, but they aren’t.
There area also a lot of people who believe that this was a one and done type of thing for Penn State, but that isn’t what will happen.
This team is for real, and will stay around for a long time.
James Franklin
I think one of the biggest reasons that this team will repeat, is because calling all the shots, James Franklin. He has done a wonderful job recruiting, and the guys he has brought in have done an amazing job on the field.
He is also a players coach and everyone seems to really respect what he stands for, and that has made the players go all in.
Big 10 2017 Football Conference Betting Prediction: 11-1
Penn State has a tough schedule having to play Michigan, Ohio State, and and Nebraska. But I don’t think that will matter they are the better team and will win two of those games.

They will win out the rest of their schedule and finish the season 11-1 and play and win the Championship game again.
