NHL Gambling Futures – Lord Stanley’s Cup Favorite?
We are almost half way through the NHL season – the contenders for the 2016 Stanley Cup have already started to separate themselves from the pack. There are the usual suspects in the mix for the top spot in the Overall Standings and a few surprises as well.

The Caps and the Stars are the two best examples of serious contenders that were on few people’s radar at the beginning of the year, while the Penguins, although better lately have failed to live up to anyone’s expectations this year.
So after a pretty good sample size of games, who should we throw our hard-earned money behind to win it all this year? Let’s take s a look at a few and the odds that accompany those teams.
Dallas Stars 5/1
The Stars haven’t been great the last week or so but still hold an eight point lead atop the Western Conference standings. The team seems built for a long Stanley Cup run -size, speed, a ton of offensive skill, and solid goaltending.

Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and Patrick Sharp offer up one of the best power plays in the game (something that will be crucial during the playoffs), Jason Spezza, Ales Hemsky, Johnny Oduya and Vernon Fiddler give them some stellar veteran experience and the goaltending duo of Kari Lehtonen and Antti Niemi provide a great goaltending do for the team.
There are no holes on the Stars – I expect them to make a good run at the Cup this year.
Washington Capitals 6/1
The Capitals have been the best team in the NHL all season long – they hold nearly a double-digit lead in the East.
They can thank Braden Holtby for the fact that they are a favorite half way through the year – he is 24-4-1 with a 1.86 GAA and a .934 save percentage and has to be considered the favorite for the Vezina at this time.
Add in the strong play of Alex Ovechkin, Nick Backstrom Justin Williams (who has won three Cups), T.J. Oshie and defenseman John Carlson and the Caps look as complete a team as there is right now.

The combination of size, speed, experience, great goaltending and excellent coaching has made a believer out of me!
Los Angeles Kings 15/2
Don’t look now but the Los Angeles Kings are creeping up the Standings. After a slow start they are finally who we thought they’d be – as tough a team as there is to play against in the NHL.
They have won two of the last four Cups (although they missed the playoffs last year) and are as experienced as any team in the NHL right now.
Names like Anze Kopitar, Jeff Carter, Dustin Brown, Marian Gaborik, Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson up front, Drew Doughty, Jake Muzzin, Matt Greene and Christian Erhoff on defense and Jonathan Quick between the pipes is no joke folks -the Kings are a contender for sure!
Chicago Blackhawks 17/2
The Hawks are once again, to nobody’s surprise near the top of the standings and looking like a serious threat to win their third Cup in six years.
Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Marian Hossa, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, Niklas Hjalmarsson and Core Crawford make up an imposing roster full of a great mix of experience and youth.
The Hawks have been in the mix in every playoff run the last decade – don’t expect any different this year!
New York Rangers 10/1
– Now we start getting into some value! The Rangers have been knocking on the door of a Championship the last few years and haven’t lost much off the rosters from the teams that have seriously contended. The Rangers are deep, they are talented and they are backstopped by some guy named Henrik Lundqvist
Montreal Canadiens 12/1
How about some more value? The Habs looked like the most dominant team in the league before Carey Price got injured but have struggled mightily without him. Guess what folks – Price WILL BE back at some time during the season and the Canadiens WILL BE awfully tough to score on once again.
Thanks to their struggles Montreal is off many people’s radar – not mine!
Expect them to tweak the roster at the deadline and for this team to contend once again.
With a solid squad up and down the lineup and with a healthy, rested Carey Price, Montreal is my favorite to win it all this year. It may be wise to grab them now at this price (excuse the pun!!!).
Once their All-World keeper gets back they will be one of the favorites.
St. Louis Blues 12/1
Boston Bruins 13/1
Minnesota Wild 14/1
Tampa Bay Lightning 14/1
– The Lightning made the Finals in 2015 but have been a disappointment so far this year. Still, with almost the identical roster that accomplished that goal Tampa has to at least be on the radar – don’t they?
Anaheim Ducks 16/1
– preseason favorites had a brutal start to the year but have shown signs lately of coming out of their skid. The Ducks have all the makings of a Championship team and look like good value in the West.
Anaheim will be heard from this year – guaranteed but are still slipping under most people’s radar.
Nashville Predators 18/1
New York Islanders 18/1
Detroit Red Wings 22/1
[dfads params=’groups=235&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Pittsburgh Penguins 30/1
– The Penguins don’t really scare anybody. Simply put there isn’t enough depth on a team that has some much money committed to Crosby, Malkin, Kessel and Fleury.
Ottawa Senators 35/1
Florida Panthers 45/1
Winnipeg Jets 55/1
San Jose Sharks 60/1
Arizona Coyotes 75/1
Buffalo Sabres 75/1
Calgary Flames 75/1
Edmonton Oilers 75/1
Vancouver Canucks 75/1
Colorado Avalanche 100/1
Columbus Blue Jackets 100/1
New Jersey Devils 100/1
Philadelphia Flyers 100/1
Carolina Hurricanes 300/1
Toronto Maple Leafs 300/1
