Last year’s Winter Classic at Ralph Wilson Stadium—home of the Buffalo Bills—was the NHL’s first ever outdoor game played in the U.S. and was a hit for newbie and online NHL betting gurus. The nationally televised New Year’s Day event, competed and very much held its own in ratings on a sportsbook betting day made for bowling. Roughly 3.7 million viewers watched the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Sabres in a 2-1 SO.

Okay MLB Sportsbook bettors, I’ll admit that the Chicago Cubs (97-65 SU, 82-74-6 O/U, 83-79 RL) dropped the ball in a big way on Wednesday, losing Game 1 of their NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers (85-78 SU, 74-83-5 O/U, 81-81 RL) 7-2 while simultaneously ruining what would have been a perfect 5-0 MLB wagering day for me.

Cubs Defeat Cardinals

Cubs Win Series vs. Cardinals

Ryan Dempster gave the Cubs a quality start while Ronny Cedeno and Mark DeRosa knocked in a pair of runs each to help Chicago top St. Louis, 6-2, in the rubber match of a three-game series.

The Cubs extended their advantage over the Cardinals in the NL Central to seven games.

St. Louis is now three games off Milwaukee’s pace in the NL wild card standings.

Game Notes

Chicago leads the 2008 season series 5-4 and was 11-5 against the Cardinals last season… The Cubs are off Monday before heading to Atlanta for a three- game series starting Tuesday, while St. Louis opens a four-game set in Miami Monday with the Marlins
