Chile and Australia kick off their World Cup 2014 campaign June 13 – each team looking for the second qualifying spot in Group B – the #1 spot has all but been conceded to the Spanish who are the class of the Group.
The World Cup kicks off this week when the host country Brazil opens the tournament with a match against one of the two teams that will be fighting for the second spot in Group A and a place in the knock-out stage of the tournament – Croatia.
Perhaps the biggest match in Group A takes place June 13 when Mexico takes on Cameroon to determine which team could join Brazil in the knock-out stage of World Cup 2014. Mexico, Cameroon and Croatia will likely be in a heated battle for the second qualifying spot in Group A.
The two teams that met in the 2010 World Cup Final meet on day 2 of World Cup 2014 when the defending Champs Spain takes on the Netherlands, a team that figures to be battling just to move on past the Group stage this year.
Colombia enters as this summer’s Group C favorite in Brazil, and will open its World Cup play against a stubborn Greece side that are not expected to make it out of the group stage, much less the finals.
Germany will open its World Cup Group G campaign with a crucial match against a Portugal side which will once again rely heavily on the skills of mega superstar striker Cristiano Ronaldo.
Group H is definitely not the most competitive group. This is in part in that Belgium is still considered a surprise favourite at a World Cup as they have not traditionally been this good and everyone seems to be wondering whether they are really capable of winning a big event like this.
By being placed in this group Argentina is almost guaranteed to advance past the group stage. They would have been one of the favourites to win the whole tournament regardless of what group they are in, but amongst this collection of nations they are likely to be unchallenged until the knockout stage.
Group G is this year’s World Cup “Group of Death”, and is likely to live up to that billing after Germany, Ghana, the United States and Portugal were all assembled, with te later being arguably some of the best teams in the world, with Germany being a strong possible World Cup winner.
While Group C appears to be fairly evenly matched, and there are plenty of different styles within the group that should make for some relatively interesting and competitive matches.
Group B of the 2014 World Cup features the two teams that played for the Title in 2010 – Spain and the Holland will re-acquaint themselves early in the tournament this year as they compete for Group B supremacy. The squads face each other in their first matches of the tournament this year!
With the World Cup less than a month away, it is time to focus on the Group stages and which teams should move on into the elimination Rounds. Group A is highlighted by host country Brazil – five-time winner of the World Cup.
