Texas vs BYU College Football Handicapping
Big things were expected from the Texas Longhorns this season, and they took care of business in a big way after an early scare against New Mexico State, beating up on the Aggies, 56-7.

The Michigan Wolverines and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will face off on Saturday at the Big House. Michigan rolled over the Central Michigan Chippewas 59-9 in their season opener, while the Irish made quick work of Temple, dispatching the Owls 28-6.
This story of David and Goliath could end the same as its biblical counterpart, as Texas A&M faces off against FCS powerhouse Sam Houston State this Saturday.
I have to start by saying that it is fantastic that Florida, Miami and Florida State essentially have a round robin to determine the best team in the state this year. The Gators and Hurricanes are both coming into this one off victories that didn’t force them to sweat too much.
I suppose it shows how far the Arkansas State program has come that they are now the one’s scheduling in state cream puffs to start the season, before they used to be the cream puff. Last week they beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 62-11, with their third head coach in as many seasons.
The USC Trojans are set to host the Washington State Cougars in Week 2 of the college football season, and while the home team will certainly be the favorites, WSU has a dangerous passing attack that will test the defense right out of the gate.
The Stanford Cardinal had a buy in Week 1, which means their Sept. 7 matchup against the San Jose State Spartans will be the first time fans have seen them since their 20-14 Rose Bowl victory over the Wisconsin Badgers.
The Arizona Wildcats and the UNLV Rebels are coming off of vastly different Week 1 experiences. Arizona took down the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 35-0, while UNLV fell to the Minnesota Golden Gophers 51-23.
Nebraska was probably the most disappointing that still got a win last week – certainly among ranked teams. Some have them pegged as challengers in the Big 10 but they barely beat Wyoming last week and the Cowboys did a number on their defense racking up more than 600 yards, pitiful.
That’s not a typo, its Bulldogs vs Tigers again from Clemson, this time just with slightly less hype than last week’s monster tilt. The Tigers were very impressive against Georgia last Saturday night and I am sure there are some out there who think they are primed for a fall, especially after what we saw from the FCS squads last week.
UAB is not a very good team but there might be just enough wins for them to push for a spot in a bowl game at season’s end. This will not be one of them as they are on the road again after losing at Troy by three last week. It was an emotional loss as they let their opponents tie the game late and win in overtime so their emotions could be low.
The No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes will aim to take care of business at home on Saturday when they try to reclaim their Week 1 No. 1 ranking with a win over a struggling San Diego State Aztecs who lost their season opener to Eastern Illinois 40-19.
The Northwestern Wildcats were able to pull off a road victory at Cal in its season opener, but it came at a cost. Now the Cats’ will have to host a Syracuse team on Saturday without the possibility of two key offensive weapons.
The Oklahoma Sooners took the field for their season opener last Saturday under the direction of redshirt freshman Trevor Knight under center.
The Oregon State Beavers had one of the most disappointing results of any FBS team in Week 1. They lost to the Eastern Washington Eagles (FCS), and as a result, they dropped out of the AP Top 25. The Hawaii Warriors are also looking for their first win, as they fell to USC 30-13.
The Florida International Golden Panthers will face a stern test in their first home game under new head coach Ron Turner when they host in-state rival Central Florida.
