Who would’ve thought that it would be the Utah Jazz entering this matchup on a hot streak and the Portland Trail Blazers riding their toughest stretch of the 2013-14 NBA season.
The Toronto Raptors will make the trip over to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Jazz on Monday night. The Raptors couldn’t complete an upset of the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday night, while Utah also began February with a loss, falling to the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center.
With three days rest, the Utah Jazz will host the Golden State Warriors on Friday night, looking to close out a four-game home stand with their third consecutive win.
This season the Jazz are 7-11 at home and the Nuggets are 8-9 on the road. The Nuggets are 19-17 ATS with an O/U record of 16-20 and the Jazz are 12-26 ATS with an O/U record of 18-20.
The Bulls were dealt a major blow with Derrick Rose going down with another serious injury. He is definitely out for this one and they will have had just a single game without him in the lineup, a blowout by the Clippers to try and acclimate themselves.
The Oregon Ducks had their hearts broken last week when they fell to the No. 5 Stanford Cardinal 26-20, but the hope is that their spirits are still high, as they enter Week 12’s matchup against the Utah Utes.
The Nuggets have not gotten off to a good start this season. The are 1-4 and just lost at Phoenix who is pretty bad in their own right. In this one they get a chance to play a Utah team that is the worst in the league.
Utah has been a decent team for the last few years, but they haven’t been a real contender since the days of Stockton and Malone. Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap were the faces of the franchise last season, but neither of them is on this year’s roster. Utah is rebuilding, but they aren’t necessarily going to be short on talent either.
The Stanford Cardinal may be the No. 5 team in the country, but they’re coming off a big-time scare against the University of Washington last weekend. The Huskies played them until the very end, and the Cardinal were barely able to escape with a three-point win.
The Denver Nuggets began their season with three straight losses, but they’ve begun to turn it around with back-to-back wins against the Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets. The Utah Jazz started 2012 with a win over the Dallas Mavericks, but they quickly dropped three of their next four contests. Both teams are 2-3 on the year, and both teams face off on ESPN Friday night.
The 2011-12 NBA season was Tyrone Corbin’s first full season as the head coach of the Utah Jazz. Expectations were low, but they were able to sneak into the playoffs as an eighth seed. The Jazz play in one of the tougher divisions in all of basketball, and with virtually all five teams having improved this summer, all of them will be vying for a spot in the postseason.
Things do not look good for the Jazz, as they are down 3-0 in this series and while being a great home team this season they lost Game 3 on their floor and it was not a very close game.
The Spurs took a 1-0 lead in this series over the Jazz with their Game 1 win and unless Utah has some players besides their big guns step up they will be in an 0-2 hole heading home.
With just two games remaining in the regular season, both of these teams are still uncertain if they will be heading to the playoffs this season or to the golf course come Monday.
The Utah Jazz will come to Boston off a much-needed day of rest and having won nine of its last 10, aiming to change history, with a rare road win over the Celtics at TD Garden on Wednesday night.
