The Marquette Golden Eagles are still among the unbeatens in college basketball. This marks just the second true road game for them but it should be a little bit easier than when they beat the Badgers up in Madison.
It will be Round 2 between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the LSU Tigers, but this time the two teams will clash on Monday, January 9 at the Superdome in New Orleans to determine this season’s BCS Champion.
#5 Virginia Tech Hokies (11-1, 7-1 ACC) vs #20 Clemson Tigers (9-3, 6-2 ACC)
It seems like year in, year out – like clockwork – Virginia Tech winds up in the conference title game. Long-tenured head coach Frank Beamer perennially has his Hokies in contention.
All the SEC marbles are on the line this weekend in Atlanta, and the argument could be made that the game features the nation’s two hottest teams.
The Battle for the Palmetto State will be a spicy one this year, as both of the state’s FBS representative have fielded excellent squads.
Not only is Alabama one of the best teams in the country (Tide fans might argue the best, as it was their own foolish miscues that put the LSU game out of reach in OT) it has an axe to grind with its hated Iron Bowl rival.
If this game doesn’t have the exact same excitement and charged atmosphere that the earlier LSU-Alabama tilt had, it’ll be mighty close. This is an end of season SEC West clash that has oodles of conference title and National Title implications.
Texas has won 2 straight and the main reason is their 11th ranked rushing offense that has racked up over 400 yards on the ground in each game. Missouri is under .500 and they have lost 2 of their last 3 games, but all of their losses this season have come to teams that are currently ranked or have been in the top 25 this season.
In recent seasons, “The Battle of the Tigers” has been a can’t-miss for SEC fans and college football fans alike. Conventional wisdom would say that some of the pinch has been taken out of the match-up with the departure of all-world Auburn QB Cam Newton, but Auburn is notoriously testy in big games.
OSU (6-0) has been rolling this season and their offense is dynamic to say the least ranking 2nd in the nation in passing yards per game and they are the 2nd highest scoring team in the nation.
The ACC has emerged as an exciting conference this season. Even though the big names like Florida State and Miami have disappointed, the likes of Clemson and Georgia Tech have emerged as national contenders. North Carolina hasn’t been half-bad either.
Both of these SEC strongholds have hit turbulence in recent weeks. The Florida Gators have lost consecutive games – badly to West division stalwarts Alabama and LSU. Auburn, meanwhile, is coming off a 38-14 spanking at the hands of Arkansas.
For a long time now, the Clemson Tigers’ performance has not been where the expectations have been set. Finally, in 2011, the Tigers are producing results befitting of their talent-laden roster.
Two standard SEC powers clash at Rocky Top this Saturday afternoon, though the going has been much better lately for the visitors than the home side.
Two strong SEC West division teams not named Alabama and LSU do battle on Saturday night in the foothills of the Ozarks. The visitor happens to be last year’s National Champion – an Auburn team that was invincible until an upstart Clemson program humbled them a couple weeks back.
Kansas State (4-0) is ranked for the first time in 4 seasons and while they are coming off an upset win last week they are still a home underdog to a Missouri (2-2) team that they have lost to 5 straight times.
