The expectations for these Wyoming Cowboys is to finish in the middle of the pack in the Mountain West…again. A couple of years ago it looked like this program might turn a corner but the transfer of QB Austyn Carta-Samuels set the program back a bit.
Texas is in a somewhat similar situation, on a big-picture scale, as the Florida Gators: a super prestigious football program that was among the nation’s elite just a few seasons ago, but has recently fallen on hard times. The fact that an 8-5 2011 record portrays “hard times” at UT should speak volumes for the high pedigree of this program under head coach Mack Brown. Still, the Longhorns need to right the ship.
While the Rangers are coming off a loss they are still 7-3 in their last 10 games and have the biggest AL division lead, as they are 5.5 games up on the Oakland A’s in the AL West. The Rays are also 7-2 in their last games, but they have lost 2 straight.
As this is being written the Rangers are getting hammered down 7-0 in the 5th as these two division leaders square off.
The Rangers were on a nice roll but couldn’t close out the sweep against Oakland over the weekend. Still they have won 7 of their last 10 and are one of the best road teams in the Majors with a 23-15 record.
Every time I write about the Detroit Tigers it is the same story – when are these guys finally start playing to their potential and take control in the AL Central?
The Los Angeles Angels are easily the most disappointing team for me this year. This team was supposed to challenge Texas for American League supremacy but they have needed a hot streak lately just to up their record within breathing distance of .500 and third place Seattle.
It looks like the Yankees have done something everyone else has failed to in this young season – make Texas look beatable.
This is a nice battle among two of the top teams in the American League. As this is being written the Rangers are beating the Tigers in game one of their series, looking to improve their American League best record.
The Cincinnati Bearcats are a study in contrasts this year. After the brawl with Xavier they regrouped and played very good basketball, so good they surprised Syracuse in the Big East Tournament.
Texas (20-12) may have kept their streak alive of playing in the NCAA tournament, as they have gone to the Big Dance in 13 straight seasons, with a HUGE win over Iowa State last night.
Texas (19-12) has made it to the NCAA tournament 13 straight seasons, but they are currently on the bubble and if they lose this Big 12 quarterfinal their Big Dance streak may be in jeopardy.
The Texas Longhorns are in a great position to make a final push for the NCAA tournament.
Texas (17-10) is 0-6 facing ranked opponents this season, but they have a good chance to change that facing a struggling Baylor (22-5) team that has lost 3 of their last 4 games.
Many thought the Kansas Jayhawks would have be in rebuilding mode this year, but Bill Self and Thomas Robinson had other ideas. The Jayhawks are coming off a blowout victory of Baylor earlier this week.
The Longhorns who have won three of their last five will travel to Manhattan on Wednesday to take on a Kansas State Wildcats’ team that has now lost three of its last four, dropping seven spots out of this week’s AP Top 25 poll.
