Mark Sanchez has an NFL arm. Anyone who has seen him throw a football more than once or twice is convinced of that.
Sanchez also has kahones. He proved that in his second game as a pro when he engineered second-half drives in a victory over the Patriots, and in the process outplayed Tom Brady.
You might think that the Saints would have a huge advantage over the Giants this Sunday. New Orleans is coming off its bye week and has had 14 days to get ready. But the Giants last Sunday had the closest thing to a bye week –– a home game against Oakland –– and should be well-rested when the two unbeatens meet in New Orleans in the biggest game of the NFL season to date.
Seneca Wallace is a nice backup quarterback, but everyone who has even a passing interest in the NFC West knows that the fewer snaps he takes this season, the greater the chance of the Seahawks restoring themselves as the top team in the division.

Mark Sanchez was kicked in the mouth this past Sunday when he and the rest of the New York Jets ran into a defensive buzz saw down in the N’Awlins. It wasn’t Drew Brees, Marques Colston and Reggie Bush who lit up the Jets. It was the Saints defense that accounted for 14 points, a returned interception for a TD and a fumble recovery in the end Zone, and caused Sanchez to throw 3 interceptions and fumble the ball once.

One thing was obvious about the Detroit Lions last week in their victory over the Washington Redskins. That was that the Lions are a better team than anyone really knows. When rookie QB Matthew Stafford is given time, he can be every bit as effective as the Lions’ thought he would be when they drafted him #1 last April. The Lions’ defense has much better players and much better communication than the team in 2008.

Thousands of people come daily to Patriot Place, the vast shopping/entertainment/restaurant plaza that surrounds Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. The surprising San Francisco 49’ers and the Petersons, aka the Minnesota Vikings, will get it on this Sunday and everyone wants to know if this 49ers teams is for real.
Both teams are undefeated and both teams are 2 and 0 ATS. The 49’ers were brilliant against both the Arizona Cardinals and the Seattle Seahawks. The Minnesota Vikings were terrific against the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions.
How high can the O/U go in Saints games? 55? 60? 70?
In racing off to a 2-0 start, Drew Brees and the Saints are already being compared to the 2007 New England Patriots, who won 16 straight in the regular season before that Super Bowl flameout. Tom Brady threw 50 touchdown passes that season, and there is speculation that Brees will challenge that record.
Herds of unicorns will be be photographed roaming the desert outside Phoenix before the Cardinals turn into a run-oriented team. Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin (as long as he sticks around), Kurt Warner and last year’s march to the Super Bowl pretty much guarantee that for the time being, and beyond, the Cardinals will live and die with the forward pass.
At 34-14-1, there is no better team in the National Football League playing its home opener than the Dallas Cowboys. And win or lose, no home opener will be more memorable than Sunday’s night’s cage match against the New York Giants in the new 100,000-seat Cowboys Stadium.
