Thundering Herd at Badgers

Two teams who blew out their opposition in the season opener will meet up this Saturday in Madison when the Wisconsin Badgers (1-0 SU, 0-1 ATS) play host to the Thundering Herd of Marshall (1-0 SU, 0-0 ATS) in NCAA action that is set to kick off at Noon ET at Camp Randall Stadium (artificial turf).
Back by popular demand – or maybe just demand – are the college football moneylines. Here we’ll make two big moneyline favorite picks and two underdog picks and hope to avoid the big land mines on the big favorites and hope to cash with the tasty underdogs.
The Aztecs of San Diego State (0-1 SU, 0-0 ATS) suffered an awful upset in their first game of the year, and on Saturday they will try to redeem themselves when they take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who, to say the least, start the 2008 season on a quest for redemption, in an NCAA college football matchup that is set for a 3:30 PM ET kickoff at Notre Dame Stadium (natural turf) in South Bend, IN.

Tennessee U vs. UCLA
One of the best early match ups in college football comes on Monday night, September 1st as the UCLA Bruins host the 18th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers. A key game for both schools, Tennessee will be out to prove that they deserve their preseason rank, while UCLA wants badly to put a disappointing 6-6 season behind them so they can become the power in the PAC 10 that everyone thought they would be last season.

Alabama vs. Clemson
One of the most anticipated games in the opening week of College Football, the Clemson Tigers host the Alabama Crimson Tide in an early statement game for both squads. Clemson has a reputation for failing to meet expectations, a label that Tommy Bowden and his Tigers surely want to shake. Alabama has faced some up and down seasons in recent years. The Tide and their faithful are ready to bring Bama back to their glory-days as one of the most feared teams in football. They’ve started to put some of the pieces together, but I don’t think they are ready to make an drastic improvements just yet.
The Clemson offense will be one to watch this year, they posted an impressive 403 yards per game of total offense last year and they have all of the major pieces back in place to have another impressive statistical season. Starting QB and ACC preseason player of the year, Cullen Harper is back for his senior year and looking to improve upon a 2007 season in which he threw for nearly 3,000 yeards and 27 TDs. The Tigers have very talented receivers and two running backs that could both be starters for almost any team in the nation. It will be fun to watch how Bowden utilizes all of his tools throughout this game and the season overall.
The first few weeks of the college season can set you up for the rest of the year or even pad your pocket for NFL Sundays. A good, hard look at the numbers reveals some very enticing odds to make you money as oddsmakers try to get a handle on how teams will perform.

As if you couldn’t pinpoint that segway before. His pops could sure race at Bristol, and he passed the genes down to No. 88! Junior has finished eleventh or better in each of his last ten races at Thunder Valley, and that’s unlikely to change this week. Another thing that runs in the family: A flare for the dramatic. What’s more dramatic than a night race at Bristol? The image itself just screams NASCAR! As long as he avoids a wreck, bettors should look for him to be in contention all night long.
Greg Biffle
Nobody has a better average finish at Bristol than the Biff (9.7). The No. 16 driver is the kind of no-nonsense, aggressive driver that is traditionally successful on short tracks. He also has six top tens in his last seven starts here, and true to his style, he’s not going to take his foot off the gas this week! Biffle should offer some nice value for a racer that is a very legitimate threat in this race.

Super Bowl Odds: 80-1
Despite covering the spread seven times, the St. Louis Rams ended their season with a disappointing 3-13 SU record. The Rams appear to be in full rebuilding mode following a season that saw a majority of their star players injured at some point. QB Marc Bulger had a tough season, throwing 15 interceptions to go with just 12 TDs. Bulger is fully capable of playing at a Pro Bowl level and with better luck this year; he may get a chance to prove it.
