Dr. James Andrews told Anderson to rest the elbow for that long; he’ll also have a platelet-rich plasma injected into his elbow to expedite the healing process.
Johan Santana stops throwing program
It looks like New York Mets Johan Santana is in jeopardy of missing the entire 2011 season. He reportedly shut down his throwing program 10 days ago after experiencing soreness in his left (throwing) shoulder, which he had surgically repaired last September.
Dodgers owe many $8.33 million
The L.A. Dodgers’ messy financial situation just got worse. The team was already in limbo because of Frank and Jamie McCourt’s divorce; now, it appears the Dodgers owe Manny Ramirez $8.33 million by June 30. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
Manny is due deferred compensation of $25 million over the next three years, left over from the $42-million deal he signed before the 2009 season.

NHL news: Mason Raymond fractures vertebrae
The Vancouver Canucks got some really bad news on top of losing Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final to the Boston Bruins last night. Forward Mason Raymond fell awkwardly into the boards when he was tangled with Johnny Boychuk. He lay face down on the ice for several minutes before his teammates helped him off the ice. He didn’t appear to be moving his legs.
UFC news: Dos Santos secures heavyweight title shot
It appears the title pictures in two different weight classes were ironed out after Saturday’s UFC 131. After pounding Shane Carwin to a pulp in a unanimous decision victory, Junior Dos Santos locked up his No. 1 heavyweight contender status.
He’ll face Cain Velasquez for the title once Velasquez’s shoulder injury heals.
Kenny Florian to challenge for featherweight belt?

NFL news: Javarris James arrested for marijuana
Indianapolis Colts running back Javarris James was arrested Thursday night for marijuana possession. He was picked up in Fort Myers, Florida.
The charge is a misdemeanor. No word yet on how or if the team might discipline him.
Marvin Lewis expects Andy Dalton to start opener
Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis made a bolt statement on a radio station recently when he suggested that rookie Andy Dalton out of TCU will be the team’s Week-1 starter. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
“There’s no question when we selected Andy Dalton we selected him with that in mind he’d possibly be our opening-day starting quarterback,” Lewis said.

The Oakland Athletics are fed up with their losing streak. It hit 10 games on Thursday but, before the most recent lost, the team fired manager Bob Geren. He went 334-376 over four-plus seasons with the team.

Kenny Britt was arrested yet again on Wednesday. On the same day that he already got a fine and points deducted from his license, he was booked Wednesday night by New Jersey narcotics officers and charged with two counts for arresting arrest.
