Tiger Woods Is Back.
Forget his popularity with casual or serious golf fans. Tiger Woods return to competition means more than just the game. It means money, lots of money. Just ask the PGA and TV networks for starters.

Mike Weir narrowly missed carding a 59 on Friday, but his four-under 67 Sunday gave him a one-shot lead after three rounds of the Deutsche Bank Championship. There was a second cut at three-under-par 210 with 14 players missing out on the final round. Among those 14 were 2007 champion Phil Mickelson, who shot one-over 72 to finish at 211, Adam Scott (211) and Kenny Perry (213).
“I’ll just go out there and play,” Weir said, adding that his third round wasn’t “textbook” because his ball-striking wasn’t as sharp as he’d like. “But I held it together.”
Given the quality and number of players close to him, Weir will probably have to do more than hold it together.
Carl Pettersson caught fire on the back nine Sunday to win the Wyndham Championship by two shots over Scott McCarron.
Pettersson fired a closing round of two-under 68, and a final score of 21-under.
Pettersson also set new 36- and 54- hole scoring records along the way.
The big bonus for him though was winning the tournament vaulted him into the TOP 30 on the PGA tour Fed-EX cup points list.
Luke Donald will miss the remainder of the 2008 golf season after undergoing surgery on his left wrist Monday.
The 30-year-old Englishman first opted for rehab, then decided to have surgery. Monday’s procedure was performed by Dr. Andrew Weiland in New York.
Donald, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour, had been a part of Europe’s last two Ryder Cup teams. He notched three top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour this year, with a runner-up at the Honda Classic his best result.
