The Arkansas Razorbacks are mired in a terrible losing streak, with their 3-0 start just a distant memory. This weekend they get an Ole Miss Rebels team that is heading in the opposite direction, and could be in for more disappointment.
The Ole Miss Rebels continue their tour of the SEC’s elite teams, following up games against Alabama and Texas A&M with a game against the No. 6 team in the nation, the LSU Tigers.
Ole Miss finished strong last season winning both their annual battle with Mississippi State and their bowl game against Pittsburgh, creating a feeling of confidence heading into the 2013 season.
Ole Miss continued their spirited play, upsetting the Badgers in their opening round game of the tournament.
Even with the addition of Missouri the SEC is still kind of light this season. Alabama and Mississippi are fighting to prove that the league is worthy of multiple bids and this game could be critical to both of these team’s chances.
I don’t know how things got weird and a game of this calibre got pushed to this late in the bowl calendar. I do know that there is nothing to like about it. SEC vs BIg East is not a good matchup in this one.

The Panthers needed to win their final two games to become bowl eligible and they did. In fact they have gone the whole season on two game streaks, losing then winning, creating their current symetrical 6-6 record.
Mostly they are getting it done on the defensive side of the ball as the Panthers are inconsistent on offense at best…
At running back they have a difference maker in Ray Graham. The pint sized senior finally broke through with a 1000 yard season – but with his worst average per carry. He is tougher than he looks and plays well when the team wins.
QB Tino Sunseri has taken a lot of heat over the years but he put up some nice numbers as a senior too including a TD/INT ratio of 19/2…Pitts was 7-4 ATS this season including 5-1 the last two months of the season.
I think the only way you can like this team is as the underdog because you just can’t rely on them too much. That extra half point provides some value though.
Ole Miss also got their bowl qualifying win in the last week of the season, beating in-state rival Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl. They play in the toughest division in college football and held their own this year, losses to Vanderbilt, LSU and Texas A&M were all by 6 points or less. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
This isn’t a great team but with any other schedule they are probably 8-4…
Nothing in particular stands out about Ole Miss talent wise. QB Bo Wallace is alright but throws it too many times to the wrong guys. Former starting QB Randall Mackey gets used running the ball, at receiver and sometimes even throwing the ball too.
It is that kind of versatility that might come in handy with a lot of extra time to prepare…
Though just 6-6 Ole Miss has been a very profitable 9-3 ATS. This is a battle tested team that even though it is not super talented seems to play above its head.
Coach Hugh Freeze is doing a better job than you realize in his first year and it should end with a bowl victory.

When you play in the SEC it sometimes can be hard to tell just how good you really are. The Rebels have won all the games they were favoured in save one and the same has been true with them as the underdogs, losing all except one.
After a couple of rough seasons many are predicting the return of Longhorns football as we used to know it. There has always been lots of highly touted talent and we have been told that this is the year it is fitting back together again.
In comes former Arkansas State head coach Hugh Freeze to try and fix the mess in Oxford, Mississippi.
Last year was Houston Nutt’s final chance holding the clipboard at Ole Miss, and once it was announced that Nutt wouldn’t be back, the Rebs got crushed in three consecutive games, including embarrassing losses to LSU (52-3) and – even more shamefully – to in-state rival Mississippi State, 31-3 in the Egg Bowl.
It was supposed to be Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt for the third time this year, but Mississippi had something to say about that.
Tom Crean engineered an impressive turnaround at Indiana this year. Cody Zeller has been tremendous in his freshman season, and the Hoosiers knocked off the number one team in the country twice.
Both Middle Tennessee State and Mississippi enter this game with just two losses on the season.
Two of the SEC’s bottom-feeding teams open their conference schedule against each other this Saturday in Nashville. Though these teams cannot keep up with the likes of an Alabama, LSU or South Carolina, they are well matched versus each other, which should at least make for an intriguing game.
There is tangible pressure on Houston Nutt in just his fourth season at the helm in Oxford.
