This is not the most exciting game on the board but it could be entertaining and both teams test whether they have actually gotten better. If one of these teams actually has a QB they might be alright this season.

The Raiders were bad last season.
They couldn’t throw worth a damn and the only reason they put up so many yards on the ground was because their quarterback was a good athlete, prone to scampering.

This year they have to choose between a promising rookie and a washed up veteran.
Derek Carr vs. Matt Schaub.
As this is being written it looks like they are going with the veteran. Mostly they are hoping that the running game, enhanced by Maurice Jones-Drew will be enough to minimize their reliance on the QB.
The one thing the Raiders have going for them in this one is that the Jets are no more set at QB and it is opening week so anything can happen.
Neither of these teams is all that good but somebody is going to walk out 1-0.

The +5 you can get with the Raiders is actually a pretty nice number. If they can get off to a good start maybe the running game can grind it out for them.
The Jets are kind of in no man’s land right now.
It is not all that long ago that they went to back to back championship games thanks to a strong defense and spirited quarterback play.
But as the defense declined it put more pressure on Mark Sanchez and he was not able to rise to the occasion. The whole offense struggled and things got be pretty embarrassing.
Last year marked the beginning of a new era but it has not exactly been swimming with Geno Smith leading the club.
For this season I am convinced that Michael Vick is a better option than Geno Smith. He has that extra dimension of being able to run and has always been able to create big plays because of his willingness to rely on his physical gifts.
Smith is getting the start and with a number over -3 I think that is more than enough reason to fade the Jets.

This one could be pretty ugly so you might want to bet it and forget it.
NFL Score prediction: New York 23 – Oakland 20
The Jets eek out a win but the Raiders will be the winning play in this one. As I said earlier unless you want to be frustrated throughout the whole game wondering how this passes for NFL football.

The Oakland Raiders had a very tough year again. The fan base continues to support the players but the patience is beginning to run thin as expectations are for this team to no longer be at the bottom of the AFC.
The Raiders won only 4 games last season but when you look at the personnel they were putting on the field even that seems like more than they should have.
The Oakland Raiders begin the season all even with the three other teams in their Division – enjoy it while it lasts! The Raiders figure to be one of the basement dwellers again as they try to keep up with the Broncos, the Chargers and the Chiefs.
Broncos Look to Wrap Up Home Field Sunday Versus Lowly Oakland
The Oakland Raiders will attempt to close out a miserable 2013 campaign in style Sunday when they host a banged up Denver Broncos team that will be without Vonn Miller on defense and perhaps Wes Welker again on offense. Oakland has been terrible the last half of the season and they did lose 37-21 to Denver in September.
Needing to win out, the Chargers will play host to their bitter division rival Oakland who arrive in San Diego on Sunday in the midst of a four-game losing skid, but no less determined to sweep this year’s series.

Oakland (4-10) handed the Chargers a 27-17 defeat at Oakland on Oct. 6, a game in which the Raiders capitalized on five San Diego turnovers.
But since then, the Raiders have lost seven of nine, including last week’s 56-31 pummeling by Kansas City in which they set a franchise record for most points allowed in a game.
The Raiders defense is mired in a major tailspin, allowing around 41 points in the last three games. And the offense isn’t any better. Quarterback Matt McGloin turned in his worst performance of the season last week, throwing four interceptions against the Chiefs
Nevertheless, there is some optimism for the Raiders, who could return Darren McFadden back in time for their trip to San Diego.

With McFadden out, backup running back Rashad Jennings has done a solid job, rushing for 91 yards last week, while notching his second straight two-touchdown game.
Defensively, the Raiders are ranked 24th against the pass and are tied for the second-fewest interceptions in the league. Not good news as they face San Diego’s Philip Rivers, who has compiled a 28-6 career mark in the month of December.
Needing to win out and have Miami and Baltimore each drop their final two games to secure the AFC’s final playoff slot, the Chargers (7-7) postseason hopes appear distant.
Still, they will enter Sunday’s contest with lots of hope and momentum after a surprising 27-20 upset in Denver last week.
Rivers threw a pair of touchdown passes, while running back Ryan Mathews tied his season high with 127 yards and went over 100 yards for the fifth time in the past nine games against the Broncos.
Meanwhile the defense held the Broncos to only 18 rushing yards on 11 attempts and came up with a key fourth-quarter interception to hand Denver its first home loss of the season.
The Raiders are a mess, and San Diego seems to be surging towards a desperate attempt at a playoff spot.
If the same Chargers’ defense that held Denver in check shows up to this one, the party’s over for Oakland an may be just getting started in San Diego.
Chargers 28, Raiders 21
Looking to clinch their first playoff berth in three seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs can inch a little closer to winning the AFC West with a huge road win over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday afternoon.
The New York Jets had a chance to make something of their season last week but they lost to the Miami Dolphins in maybe their worst performance of the season.
Cowboys Continue Playoff Push – Host Raiders in Thanksgiving Showdown
The Dallas Cowboys return home this week after a crucial, character-building win against the Giants to take on the Oakland Raiders – a team that saw their playoff hopes all-but-dashed last week with their home loss to the Titans.
Two teams that are sitting under .500 but are still in the playoff race will face off on Sunday when the Titans arrive in Oakland to take on the Raiders in the Black Hole.
The Houston Texans will attempt to welcome back head coach Gary Kubiak with a win on Sunday, when they host the struggling Oakland Raiders.
With back to back wins the New York Giants are trying to make the long trek back to respectability. They have an excellent chance to get another one on Sunday when the hapless Oakland Raiders come to town.
The Philadelphia Eagles have lost their last two games, both critical divisional tilts, yet somehow are still in the middle of things in an awful NFC East. This week they are on the road where they have been playing their best ball this year (3-1 record).
Things are starting to turn around for the Pittsburgh Steelers who after starting the 2013 campaign with four straight losses, have won two consecutive games.
