NBA Betting Tips – Handicapping Matchups

Matt Fargo takes a look at the NBA schedule this weekend and pulls out important matchups, injuries, news notes and betting trends from around the league.

Portland will be playing its first home game on Friday against the Spurs. The Blazers will be without the services of Greg Oden who is out 2-4 weeks with a sprained foot. Joel Przybilla will start for the Blazers at center against San Antonio after he finished with four points and 11 rebounds in 25 minutes against the Lakers. Portland was a dismal 34.5 percent from the floor in that game and now faces a team it is 0-12 in its last 12 against.

Suns vs. Spurs Sportsbook Preview – Betting Trends

NBA: SUNS SURPRISING AGAINST THE SPURS

For all the postseason problems the Phoenix Suns have had with the San Antonio Spurs, they’ve been a great bet against the spread (ATS) in recent seasons.

The Suns are a surprising 5-2 ATS against the Spurs over the last two regular seasons and they look to improve on that as these two teams open their 2008-09 campaign on ESPN at 8 pm ET.

2008-09 Basketball Betting – Phoenix Suns Preview

Let me see if I’ve got this right. The Phoenix Suns (55-27 SU, 39-40-3 ATS, 45-37 O/U), were agonizingly close to reaching the NBA Finals four straight seasons under head coach Mike D’Antoni, playing an entertaining up-tempo brand of basketball that literally altered the style of play of almost every team in the league.

2008-09 Basketball Wagering – Los Angeles Lakers Preview

I know the Los Angeles Lakers (57-25 SU, 47-33-1 ATS, 40-41 O/U), surprisingly won the Western Conference last season and are favored to win the West again this season in the BetUS Sportsbook, but I’m here to warn my beloved Sportsbook NBA bettors that far too many basketball pundits are putting the cart before the horse when it comes to the Lakers!

2008-09 Basketball Betting – Memphis Grizzlies Preview

The Memphis Grizzlies (22-60 SU, 35-46-1 ATS, 39-43 O/U), got explosive combo guard O.J. Mayo in a draft day trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but dropped the ball if you ask me by allowing talented big man Kevin Love to get away for another point guard just one season after drafting former Ohio State product Mike Conley to be their ‘point guard of the future.’

2008-09 Basketball Wagering – Los Angeles Clippers Preview

The Los Angeles Clippers (23-59 SU, 33-49 ATS, 35-47 O/U), can change the names on the back of their uniforms all they want – this is clearly a franchise that is clueless when it comes to building a team for sustained success.

2008-09 NBA Wagering Preview – Miami Heat

The Miami Heat (15-67 SU, 35-46-1 ATS, 37-43-2 O/U), took a huge step backwards last season, going a pitiful 15-67 just one season after posting a respectable 44-38 record.

When last we saw the Atlanta Hawks (37-45 SU, 37-44-1 ATS, 42-40 O/U), they were scaring the bejesus out of the Boston Celtics, running the defending champions unmercifully at home before falling in seven games.

Sportsbook NBA Props – Rookie Of The Year

NBA Rookie Futures Betting

Everyone thinks this is a two horse race between Rose and Beasley, but I have news for you: It’s not. By the way, Rose isn’t the only first overall pick eligible for the NBA Rookie of the Year award…
