Does any sports do “rivalry” games better than college football…the Red Sox and Yankees might have a say, and Duke-North Carolina in college hoops…but there is something magical about these big rivalry games in the fall that, to me, anyway, supersede the others.
A prime example is on display this weekend at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, when the 2009 edition of the Red River Rivalry kicks off.

The BYU Cougars visit the 17 point home underdog UNLV Rebels at 10:00 PM ET at Sam Boyd Stadium.

The Rebels have dropped the last two games including a 63-28 embarrassing loss against Nevada last week. They allowed Nevada’s RB Mike Ball to score 5 times on the ground and gave up 773 totals yards.
In the only Friday night college football game the 10 point favorite Nevada Wolf Pack host the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at 9:00 PM ET at Mackay Stadium.
Nevada is 1-3 this season but is looking to put together a streak after winning for the first time this year 63-28 over UNLV last week.
