The first Major of the year is upon us and there are certainly a ton of storylines ahead of the most anticipated early season tournament on the schedule. Will Rory be able to flex his muscle? Will Tiger be able to rediscover his long-lost form? Will Jimmy Walker continue his meteoric rise? Will Dustin Johnson continue to make a statement after his sabbatical?
The final tune-up before the Masters takes this place this week in Houston, Texas when the Shell Houston Open is contested on Redstone GC (Tournament Course).
The PGA Pros head to Texas this week after a long stay in Florida to play the 2015 Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio – a 7,435 Yards, Par 72 track. Ball striking seems to be the key on what has regularly been one of the toughest par 72 track the Pros play each year.
The PGA Pros move to Orlando this week to tackle Bay Hill and the Arnold Palmer Invitational. 120 of the best golfers on the planet will tee it up this week on Bay Hill’s par 72, 7,419 yard layout including the top 5 in the current world golf rankings. One huge omission is Tiger Woods who has won this event eight times.
The third leg of the Florida swing comes our way from Palm Harbor this week when the 2015 Valspar Championship is contested a the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort. Copperhead is a par 71, 7,340 yard track that rewards a solid all-around game.
The PGA pros take a short trip to Doral this week to play the Cadillac Championship on the redesigned Trump National Doral’s Blue Monster – the toughest non-major track on TOUR since 2013. Fairways are tough to hit, proximity stats were among the worst of any PGA event last year and putting was almost unfair on the 7,528 yard pat 72 track.
The Florida swing of the PGA TOUR begins this weekend with one of the premier events on the schedule – the Honda Classic. It is a par-70 layout that stretches out to 7,140 yards that features one of the most exciting three hole stretch in golf – the Bear Trap.
A tremendous field will give it a go this week on Riviera’s iconic track as the 2015 Northern Open is contested. Riviera is unlike last week – it measures 7,349 yards and it plays to par of 71.
Well, it’s been quite a run for me – I have nailed the winner two of the last three weeks thanks to Jason Day’s (14/1) playoff victory at the Farmers and Bill Haas (25/1) a couple of weeks ago.
The 2015 Farmers Insurance Open comes our way from Torrey Pines this week – a quality field will try to unseat Scott Stallings as the Pros take to Torrey Pines South and North courses with the South Course hosting all weekend action.
The most fan-friendly golf tournament in the world comes our way this week from a very busy Phoenix, Arizona, site of the Super Bowl that also takes place this weekend.
The PGA pros vacate Hawaii this week and invade Indian Wells, California for the Humana Challenge – a pro-am format tournament that will feature some longer rounds than the best in the world are used to.
The first full field PGA event of 2015 comes our way from beautiful Waialae Country Club on Honolulu, Hawaii this week. Jimmy Walker returns to defend this week off a very disappointing playoff loss at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions last week.
The first tournament of 2015 comes our way from the beautiful Plantation Course in Kapalua, Hawaii this week – a 7,452 yards par 73 track. Stunning views, unpredictable weather and a rather unforgiving layout await a group of last year’s PGA victors.
The big news ahead of this week’s 2014 Hero World Challenge is the return of Tiger Woods back to the golf world – as host for this week’s event! Just 18 of the best golfers in the world will tee it up this week on the 7,544 yard par 71 Isleworth Golf & CC in Windermere, Florida. It should be fun.
