Nevada is in the middle of a very competitive Mountain West Conference this season. They are 2-3 but if they can upset their in-state rivals than they will be tied with them in the standings.

As of early Monday morning Louisville is the 5th ranked team in the nation, but that will change when the new ranking come out since they have lost 3 straight.
The Jayhawks have the nation’s longest winning streak and while their offense has been struggling their defense has been solid and in their last 5 games they have not allowed over 60 points.
The Lobos are good but I don’t think anybody thought they would be leading the Mountain West this season. So far they are undefeated in conference play having already beaten UNLV and looking to get a leg up on San Diego State after this weekend.
This Temple team has no fear. They upset Syracuse at the Carrier Dome and put a scare into Kansas at Lawrence so you know they can hang with pretty much any team in the country.
It looked like the sky was falling early this season in Westwood. The team was losing, players were transferring out, eligibility issues – but things have calmed.
BYU is at 15-5 and they are 5-1 in WCC play, but they really have not beaten any great teams and they lost their only game facing a ranked team. Gonzaga is in first place in WCC play at 4-0, but they are coming off a loss in their last game.
The Blue Devils are back on top of the polls after several teams joined them with a loss recently. Funnily enough Duke is not at the top of their own conference, a spot occupied by Miami who has yet to lose in ACC play.
New Mexico is ranked and is undefeated in Mountain West Conference play and they have already beat 3 ranked teams on the season.
Minnesota has lost 2 straight games with both coming against top 10 teams and they look to get back in the W column facing a Northwestern team that has lost 2 of their last 3 games.
Kansas State is a hot team winning 8 straight games, but Kansas may be THE hottest teams in the nation, as they have not lost since the 2nd game of the season and they have already beaten a top 10 team.
Ohio State is the 14th ranked team in the nation, but they are struggling to find a 2nd leading scorer and they are coming off a loss. After losing their first 3 Big 10 games this season Iowa has won 2 straight including a win over a solid Wisconsin team in their last game.
The Big Ten is loaded at the top this year, so much so that the Spartans might only be the 4th best team in the conference. They enter this tough road environment on a 5 game winning streak including beating a tough Ohio State team over the weekend.
The Cowboys are a confounding team. They have a lot of talent but it doesn’t always shine through. I am not sure if it is because of youth or whether the pieces are not quite perfectly matched.
The Fighting Irish are ranked in the top 20 and they stayed that was snapping their 2-game losing streak in their last game. They have a tough game tonight against a Hoyas’ team that has a solid defense.
