Cleveland Indians (26-19) vs Boston Red Sox (28-19)
Cleveland has to be the biggest surprise team on the positive side in the American League so far this season, leading the A.L Central heading into Wednesday.

The forecasted demise of the New York Yankees might have been a little premature. After yesterday’s drubbing of Cleveland they are at .500 and if lefty Andy Pettite continues to turn back the clock they may have something to say all season long.
The Indians were just horrible last season. The team had few high calibre players and the ones they did have turned in poor seasons. This team was especially sparse on pitching and unfortunately it remains so heading into this season.
The Yankees had a comfortable lead in the AL East for several weeks, but they have lost 3 straight and only lead the hot Tampa Bay Rays by 2.5 games in the division.
A little over a week ago, the Detroit Tigers had taken over the AL Central lead and looked ready to run away with it.
The Tigers won yesterday’s game against the Indians and with their recent good play, being 8-2 in their last 10 games, they are now tied with the White Sox for the lead in the AL Central. The Indians are slumping losers of 6 of their last 10 games and they are 4 games back of the Tigers and White Sox.
The Indians beat the Red Sox last night and Boston has now lost 3 straight and tonight they look to snap their longest home losing streak in 18 years.
The Red Sox are reeling, as they are in the basement of the AL East, have lost 2 straight, and have lost 8 of their last 10 games.
Cleveland burst out of the gates last year to grab a big lead in the AL Central. The Indians actually led the division by seven games after starting 30-15.

Hard to believe, as many of us watch the snow fall outside, that the Boys of Summer are almost back. But it’s true; teams have started reporting to 2011 Major League Baseball training camps and it’s time to start our team-by-team baseball gambling previews for the year.

2009 is going to be a season with a big shift in MLB standings compared to last year. Some teams improved via trade and free agency and others didn’t change up much in the off season. There could be a couple teams with massive fire sales mid-year.
Here is how I see this division playing out in 2009.
