The Boise State Broncos haven’t been a dominant force this season, but they do have a respectable 5-2 record entering their contest with the BYU Cougars. The problem is that their starting quarterback will be out with a broken ankle, giving the job to Grant Hedrick.
Big things were expected from the Texas Longhorns this season, and they took care of business in a big way after an early scare against New Mexico State, beating up on the Aggies, 56-7.
The BYU Cougars are poised to make a pretty penny as an Independent, but they’ll need to be close to perfect if they hope to make a BCS bowl game.
BYU is an under-considered basketball program. Sure they got a lot of attention during the Jimmer era but this is a good program on the whole and their move to the West Coast Conference forces them to play good competition all season long.
BYU might is no longer a part of the Mountain West Conference but they still played a few games against some familiar foes this season. This will be a chance to show the MWC that they are still a program to be reckoned with.
This is not your father’s BYU Cougars team. Normally flush with one of the best passing attacks in the nation this year BYU is a stalwart defensive squad with a pair of the game’s best linebackers.
It is hard to gauge just how good this Utah State team really is. The reality is that they are just a few points away from a perfect record that could have included a victory over Wisconsin at Madison.
BYU’s first season as an independent was a success. They finished 9-3, which is a nice record, especially given they made a QB change midseason, which was really unexpected given what we saw of highly toued Jake Heaps at the end of last year.
In 2011, the year that Brigham Young University broke away to be an FBS Independent, the Cougars have had an uninspiring campaign to date.
After the conference shuffling in the Mountain West this past year, Brigham Young finds itself aligned with no one in a brave new world in 2011.
