Bulldogs vs. Titans NCAA Hoops Pick / Gambling Preview (Jan. 14)

NCAA Basketball Betting – Bulldogs Head To Detroit For Horizon Tilt

Super Bowl betting players love a good underdog, and last year, Butler came within a missed shot of beating Duke for the national title.

The Bulldogs struggled through a tough non-conference schedule, but they’re off to a good start in the Horizon League, where they will face Detroit on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs (12-5, 4-1) came out on top of an 84-79 shootout win at home against Youngstown State, and they were essentially a two-man team as Shelvin Mack dropped 28 points, while Matt Howard added 26 points before fouling out for the Bulldogs, who shot 49% from the field, and they hit half of their 16 free-throw attempts. Butler’s defense was terrible, as they allowed the Penguins to hit 14 of their 24 long-range shots.

But they won this at the foul line as they were 26-of-33, while Youngstown State was just 7-of-11, and they also limited their turnovers to seven, compared to 11 for the Penguins. College football betting players will tell you that turnovers are a huge factor in most games, and it’s no different on the hardwood.

The Titans (10-7, 4-1) used a big second half to win 72-69 at Illinois-Chicago, but they’ll have to improve against a better team because Detroit didn’t play well overall. Ray McCallum led the way with 17 points, while Jason Calliste chipped in with 16 points for the Titans, who shot 45.6% from the floor, and made just 12 of their 21 attempts from the foul line.

The Titans were also outrebounded 35-27, but they got a huge inside performance from sub LaMarcus Lowe, who came off the bench with 11 points, five boards and six blocks.

Betting services will likely favor the Bulldogs on the road, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the Penguins were favored because, to be frank, Butler isn’t as good as they have been in recent years.

The Bulldogs are 4-1 SU in their last five trips to Detroit, but only 1-4 ATS and the games are close as all five games have been decided by 10 points or less. Butler looks to have an edge inside as Detroit’s Eli Holman, who is averaging a double-double, will miss this game through suspension because of an altercation in the UIC game, and that means Howard should have a big game. Lowe isn’t used to starter’s minutes and Howard may be able to take advantage of this.

The Bulldogs have lost to the likes of Duke (again), Louisville, while beating teams like Utah and Florida State, and if the going gets tough as it did against Youngstown State, we believe their experience will guide them to a sports betting win.
