The Jackets have gone 10-0-1 in their last 11 games overall and have won five straight on home ice while the Sabres have shown a little sign of life having won three of their last five games overall. The Sabres and Blue Jackets have split their two games this season, with each winning on the road.

Not a whole lot has gone right for the Buffalo Sabres this season and the trade deadline purge did nothing to improve the team down the stretch. The team is scoring just 1.89 goals per game this year and is giving up 3.29 – unbelievable.

The Sabres have won three of their last five games and have flexed a little offensive muscle over that span. Outside of a shutout loss to the Islanders two starts back, Buffalo has scored 15 goals in four games.

[dfads params=’groups=64160&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Brian Gionta has seven points in his last five games and Matt Moulson and Tyler Ennis each have six points in their last six games. Everyone is playing for a job next year – that pride looks good on the Sabres.

Andres Lindback will get the start between the pipes even though Matt Hackett could have played. Lindback is 6-14-2 on the year with a 3.16 GAA and .906 save percentage. He will give up his share of goals almost guaranteed.

The Sabres will be looking at the elusive finish line ahead of this game – no reason to think an uptick in production in either end of the rink is inevitable.

[dfads params=’groups=16&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Well, it’s a case of a little too little, a little too late for the Columbus Blue Jackets who battled an almost unfair rash of injuries this season and will fail to make the postseason because of it. Absolutely everything is going right for this team right now as evidenced by their 10-0-1 record in their last 11 games.

Columbus has scored and astounding 45 non-shootout goals during their 11 game streak – no wonder they are winning games. Brandon Dubinski has six points in three games, Buffalo native Nick Foligno has five points in three games, Marko Dano has four points in three games, Scott Hartnell has 19 points in 19 games and depth players Cody Goloubef and Jeremy Morin each have two points in two games. The Jackets are suddenly a deep team playing with a ton of confidence on all four lines.

On the flip side the Jackets have allowed 26 goals in the last 11 games. The play of Sergei Bobrovsky is a big reason why the Jackets have exploded as the season comes to an end.

[dfads params=’groups=64161&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

He’s gone 9-0-1 with a 2.25 goals-against average in his past 10 starts while posting a 2.16 GAA in winning his last five at home.

NHL Gambling Trends

• BUF are 1-11 in their last 12 Fri. games.
• BUF are 10-43 in their last 53 road games.
• BUF are 2-8 in their last 10 games following a win.
• CLB are 8-1 in their last 9 games following a win.
• Over is 6-1-1 in CLB last 8 overall.
• CLB are 14-3 in their last 17 overall.
• Over is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings.

It is hard to fathom the Sabres defeating the hottest team in the game right now but it isn’t hard to imagine them scoring a couple goals – Buffalo is playing arguably their best offensive hockey of the season right now. The same goes for Columbus who has averaged over four goals per game their last 11.

It all adds up to a high-scoring affair Friday night. There is no value on the Moneyline so take the Over with confidence – this could be a 4-3 of 5-3 win for the Jackets.

The Over – 5 ½ goals

The Bolts are vying for a favorable seed and a deep run in the NHL’s “Second Season”, while the Sabres are selling everything but the bathroom fixtures, in complete rebuild mode.

With a 38-20-6 record, good for 82 points and second in the Atlantic division, Tampa Bay believes it is ready for the big time.

[dfads params=’groups=64160&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Featuring scoring sensation Steven Stamkos, breakthrough player Tyler Johnson and a treasure trove of other skilled European players, the Bolts have been near the top of the division and the Eastern Conference for the balance of the season.

In fact, it is only the Montreal Canadiens (also known as the stellar goaltending of Carey Price) that is keeping Tampa from the divisional crown.

The Buffalo Sabres franchise may as well be in a different universe. The Sabres are selling off literally anyone and everyone of value, jettisoning players at the deadline and grabbing prospects and draft picks with both hands.

[dfads params=’groups=16&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Buffalo’s last deal was to ship their starting goalie Michal Neuvirth (which doesn’t say much to begin with) to the New York Islanders for their backup, Chad Johnson. Neuvirth will back up Jaroslav Halak on Long Island, while Johnson will surely be the worst starting goaltender in the NHL.

The franchise in the Queen City is trying to lose in every conceivable way, so it can stay at the bottom of the league standings and have the best probability of grabbing Connor McDavid with the first overall pick in the upcoming Draft.

It is tremendously likely now that Buffalo will get either McDavid or Jack Eichel with the second overall pick in an excellent Draft, and in doing so should grab the franchise player that can turn the franchise around.

[dfads params=’groups=64161&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Until then, it’s going to be ugly on the Great Lakes – no question.

Unless Tampa Bay sleepwalks though this game – unlikely on home ice and in its current position – this game should be a cakewalk. If Buffalo is not trying to actively lose games, it isn’t far off.

Evander Kane, the mercurial talent from Winnipeg that Buffalo acquired in exchange for Drew Stafford, Tyler Myers and draft picks, will not even play until next season. Sabres fans have to take their medicine and exercise patience.

4* Free NHL Pick: Tampa Bay 4, Buffalo 0

Tampa’s potent scorers should light up Johnson early and often. The Sabres will just be looking to audition AHL players and see which young pieces are worth keeping to pair with McDavid/Eichel.

NHL Free Pick: Sabres vs. Canucks Betting Lines & Preview

Betting On NHL Hockey?

Weekly NHL Betting action sees the Buffalo Sabres taking on the Vancouver Canucks January 30 at Rogers Arena. Cappers Picks provides free NHL handicapping tips all season long.

The Vancouver Canucks will try to end a mini-two game losing streak on Friday night and it appears they may have gotten a gift from the scheduling Gods.

Their opposition? The Buffalo Sabres who have lost 13 straight games ahead of Friday night’s affair and are 1-16-1 in their last 18 games – ugly. The biggest storyline ahead of the game however is Ryan Miller who will start against his former team – the one that he backstopped for nine years.

[dfads params=’groups=64160&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

The Buffalo Sabres are a bad team – period. Case in point – they were thoroughly outplayed last night in Edmonton – the second worst team in the NHL. Absolutely nothing is working in Buffalo – the team is averaging a league-low 1.76 goals per game while surrendering an ugly 3.53 goals per game.

We’ll start with the defense and goaltending that has been dreadful during Buffalo’s 13 game losing streak. Thursday night’s starter Jhonas Enroth has lost eight straight contests with a 4.66 GAA while Buffalo’s other keeper Michal Neuvirth is also riding an eight game losing streak. His GAA over that span is 4.10. Translation – the Sabres have no reliable #1 that can or will keep them in games right now. The starter for Friday hasn’t been named but either way, it appears as though Buffalo is in trouble between the pipes.

[dfads params=’groups=16&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Buffalo’s offense isn’t likely to bail them out either on Friday night – they scored just twice against a terrible defensive team in Edmonton and are averaging just 1.76 goals per game on the year. There are some Sabres that have been OK offensively lately however – Tyler Ennis has four points in three games, Christ Stewart has four points in four games and Nikita Zadarov and Brian Gionta each have two points in their last two games.

Hey – I had to say something positive OK – there it is!

The Vancouver Canucks have been struggling lately – particularly in the offensive zone. A shutout loss Tuesday against Anaheim is proof. The team has now scored one goal or less in five of their last eight games. The power play hasn’t hit the board in the last nine games and absolutely no Canucks have stood out lately in the offensive zone.

You can bet that Vancouver will bring their best defensive effort on Friday ahead of Ryan Miller however – Miller has given the Canucks a chance to win each and every night despite the issues in the offensive zone. Miller allowed four goals on 24 shots against the Ducks – his worst effort in quite some time. He had gone 7-2-1 with a terrific 1.40 GAA prior to his current two game losing streak.

[dfads params=’groups=64161&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Miller will be eager to snap a personal mini-skid and to bring his best against his former team.

NHL Gambling Trends

• BUF are 9-47 in their last 56 road games.
• Under is 5-1-2 in BUF last 8 vs. Pacific.
• Over is 7-2-2 in BUF last 11 road games.
• VAN are 2-6 in their last 8 vs. Atlantic.
• Under is 18-7-1 in VAN last 26 overall.
• Home team is 11-3-1 in the last 15 meetings.

Buffalo has lost 13 straight games on the road and 13 straight games on the road – it is unlikely they snap that skid Friday. But there is ZERO value on the Moneyline ahead of this game – my play is the Spread.

I’m taking Vancouver -1 1/2 – I think they win this game 3-1.

Vancouver Canucks -1 1/2 (-125)

2011/2012 NHL Northeast Division Gambling + Handicapping Preview

NHL Betting – Northeast Division Preview

Perhaps the most complete team in the NHL a year ago, the Boston Bruins proved they had the depth to overcome significant injuries that would have crippled other teams on their way to clinching a Stanley Cup.

With the majority of their core set to return, the Bruins will look to repeat in a Northeast Division that is expected to be improved overall.

Their toughest challenge in getting back to the top could come from their biggest rivals, the Montreal Canadiens.

On The Rise: Montreal Canadiens

It is easy to forget it now, but the Canadiens actually forced Boston to a seventh game in their opening round series, with the Bruins clinching three of their four wins in overtime.

That was without a healthy Andrei Markov, Josh Gorges, and Max Pacioretty, and in addition to all three of those players expected to return healthy, Montreal also added winger Erik Cole to help bolster their scoring.

With a talented young nucleus that includes goaltender Carey Price and defenseman P.K. Subban looking to take another step forward, the Canadiens have the talent to be a legitimate contender in the Eastern conference if they can put it all together this year.
