Jets Try for Improbable 20-0 Start – At Patriots on Thursday Night
The New York Jets and New England Patriots meet on Thursday both coming off opening weeks wins but with different tastes in their mouths. For the Jets a win against Tampa Bay was met with utter jubilation while a win in Week 1 for New England over Buffalo came with a sense of dissatisfaction.
Battle of the Bad – Raiders Host Jags in Week 2
Unless you have Maurice Jones-Drew or Darren McFadden on your Fantasy team, the interest level in the game between the Jags and Raiders in Week 2 doesn’t exactly jump off the page. Both teams were expected to lose in Week 1 but only 1 team was even competitive.
The No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes and California Golden Bears are set to face off in Week 3, which will give Cal a chance for revenge from last season. The Golden Bears gave up a 72-yard touchdown pass in the final minutes to give Ohio State a 35-28 win.
The Oregon State Beavers had one of the most disappointing results of any FBS team in Week 1. They lost to the Eastern Washington Eagles (FCS), and as a result, they dropped out of the AP Top 25. The Hawaii Warriors are also looking for their first win, as they fell to USC 30-13.
When Jim Mora took over the UCLA football program in 2012, the team was in flux following the departure of Rick Neuheisel. Inconsistency had plagued the group for a number of years, but in his first season on board, Mora got the team to the Pac-12 championship and won nine games along the way.
The Oregon Ducks are set to open the season at home against Nicholls State. They’re a top-three team entering the year, and needless to say, their opponent is not. The Colonels will enter Autzen Stadium as huge underdogs. They won just a single game in 2012, which is the amount of games the Ducks lost.
In Week 1 of the college football season, fans across the nation are lucky enough to see a rematch of one of the best bowl showdowns of 2012. The Boise State Broncos and the Washington Huskies closed out last season with a 28-26 battle in Las Vegas for the MAACO Bowl.
The Auburn Tigers are only a few years removed from being crowned the NCAA champions, but boy does that feel like a lifetime ago. The Tigers went just 3-9 in 2012, and they were 0-6 against the SEC West. Washington State wasn’t any better last season, as they went just 3-9 also.
The USC Trojans and the Hawaii Warriors are set to kick off the 2013 college football season in a Thursday-night matchup Aug. 29. Both teams have a lot to prove, as both are coming off of disappointing 2012 campaigns.
The Deutsche Bank Championship – the second stop on the FedEx Cup playoff trail goes down this weekend at TPC Boston – a par 71 course that ranked fourth easiest on TOUR last year among the par 71 courses played. You are going to have to go low here to succeed.
Finally we have some genuine action and not just talk. This border state battle is easily the best game of the first day of action as it pits two teams who though not favourites in either the SEC or ACC, are at least in the discussion of possible conference champs respectively.
The SEC is the biggest baddest conference around and they have earned that title. The League have won so many championships in a row it is hard to keep track and have to be an odds on favourite again as they enter this season with a high number of highly ranked teams.
Boston did not show very well last night in this series opener between first place teams getting shutout on the West Coast. Yesterday they had just two hits off of Ricky Nolasco and things won’t get much easier this afternoon.
Oakland currently sits in the final AL Wild Card position but things are tightly bunched with three teams all within a three and a half games of the A’s.
The Atlanta Braves have the best record in the Majors and should be pumped to face off with a potential playoff opponent in St. Louis.
