The Steelers will be aiming for their third Super Bowl in six seasons on Sunday and with a solid veteran core that is still intact after two championship wins, Pittsburgh will be battle-tested and ready.

The core that includes veterans Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, Troy Poloamalu, and James Harrison, who are all Pro Bowl players that have been part of all three Super Bowl berths, is the preeminent reason why Pittsburgh will win.

Roethlisberger seems to be over the off-field transgressions that nearly cost him the chance to play this season and he has made the most of his second opportunity with one of the best statistical seasons of his career. Hines Ward and Mike Wallace have played the perfect roles in the passing game with Ward catching the ball over them middle while Wallace goes deep. Running back Rashard Mendenhall has been the perfect compliment as a back that can pound the ball while the Steelers’ 3-4 defense has been dominant.

That defense will need to be at its best once again against a Packers’ offense that made the Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons defenses look absolutely awful. Although quarterback Aaron Rodgers didn’t put up the same numbers in the NFC Championship game that he had in his previous three postseason contests, he should bounce back and be ready to go within the comfy confines of Cowboys Stadium. The indoor venue is perfect for Rodgers to take advantage of one of the best wide receiver cores in the league with Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, and Jordy Nelson all totaling double-digit receptions this playoffs. Green Bay’s defense has been just as good with Pro Bowl players including cornerback Charles Woodson and safety Nick Collins leading the way.

While Woodson has been on some of the biggest stages before, this will be the first Super Bowl for him and nearly every other Green Bay player. The Steelers have most of their veteran core intact from the last two Super Bowl-winning teams and that will make the biggest difference in the game.

Superbowl ATS Side Pick: Steelers +2.5

Over/Under Line: 44.5

Both teams have top-tier defenses, but that won’t take away from either team’s exceptional offenses. More importantly, with this game being indoors, expect both teams to take to the air inside Cowboys Stadium.

These teams combined for over 800 yards the last time that they met and 73 points. With Roethlisberger and Rodgers under center once again there is no reason to think this game will be a low-scoring battle.

Pittsburgh dropped the Arizona Cardinals in one of the highest scoring Super Bowls a couple of years ago and this game looks like it might just shape up the same way.
