One of the best parts about Super Bowl betting is, of course, that you can wager on far more than just the game. Team props and individual player props are always popular. Here’s a look at some of my favorite team prop bets to try this week.

WHICH TEAM WILL SCORE FIRST?

Steelers -110
Packers -120

Even though I believe the Packers will win Super Bowl XLV, they’re far more likely to be nervous. Sunday will mark the Steelers’ third trip to the big dance in six seasons. They should be nice and comfy. The Pack and, more specifically, Aaron Rodgers, should have jitters. As outstanding as Rodgers’ short playoff career has been, remember – his first career postseason throw was intercepted.

Pick: Steelers -110

WHICH TEAM WILL TAKE THE FIRST PENALTY?

Steelers -130
Packers +100

The Pack have had some odd brainfarts at crucial moments this season. However, I like Pittsburgh to take the first penalty. It’ll probably be a false start. That patchwork offensive line is bound to have some communication problems, right?

Pick: Steelers -130

WHICH TEAM WILL SCORE THE LONGEST TOUCHDOWN (Offense, defense or special teams)?

Steelers -115
Packers -115

Touch decision here. The Packers have shown more big-play ability than the Steelers recently – but the Steelers have the best big-play guy on either side in Mike Wallace. Since Troy Polamalu is a constant pick-six threat as well, I like the Steelers to trump Tramon Williams, Greg Jennings and the Packers’ big-play guys.

Pick: Steelers -115

WHICH TEAM WILL RECORD THE FIRST QUARTERBACK SACK?

Steelers +105
Packers -135

With Pittsburgh using so many backups on its offensive line, we have to assume the Packers will have an easier time getting to the quarterback.

Pick: Packers -135

WHICH TEAM WILL CALL THE FIRST TIMEOUT?

Steelers -115
Packers -115

Sticking with the theme of jitters, I think the Pack are more likely to get confused at the line or spooked by a defensive formation early on. I like them to call the first timeout.

Pick: Packers -115

WHICH TEAM WILL INTERCEPT THE FIRST PASS?

Steelers -120
Packers -110

Rodgers has a history of shaky starts when the stakes are high. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see him throw a pick on Green Bay’s opening drive. Big Ben could turn the ball over more than Rodgers over the course of the game but I think Rodgers coughs it up first.

Pick: Steelers -120

WHICH TEAM WILL HAVE THE FIRST COFFIN CORNER PUNT (Between 10-yard line and goal line)?

Steelers -115
Packers -115

If the NFC Championship game was any indication, Packers punter Tim Masthay is on fire. He did a phenomenal job keeping the ball out of Devin Hester’s hands. Maybe he can keep the hot streak going in the Super Bowl?

Pick: Packers -115

WHICH TEAM WILL BE THE FIRST TO SCORE THREE STRAIGHT TIMES?

Steelers +140
Packers +140

Neither team will score three straight times +120

Let’s end with a minor gamble. As the Steelers showed against the Ravens, when they get into their own heads, they can sag for a quarter or two at a time and allow a bunch of points. The Packers’ confidence often grows with each score and they’re no strangers to staking out big early leads (even if they squander them). So I can see the Pack scoring 13 or 14 unanswered points at some juncture.

Pick: Packers +140
