Super Bowl 44 Team Prop Bets

Super Bowl XLIV Team Props & Picks

The Super Bowl doesn’t just pull casual or non-football fans out of the woodwork to watch. It also attracts non-bettors to try their hands at wagering. A big reason why is the fun range of prop bets available. Sportsbooks come up with more wacky props for the Super Bowl than for any other sporting event all year.

Let’s have a look at some fun team props to wager on this week – with recommended picks, of course.

TEAM TO SCORE FIRST
New Orleans Saints +125
Indianapolis Colts -155

Pick: Colts -155. Indy has been here before, so Peyton Manning and company are far less likely to experience any pre-game jitters. I’m sure Drew Brees and the Saints will settle down just fine but Brees could overthrow a receiver or two on his first possession. It’s the Super Bowl, for cryin’ out loud.

TEAM TO GET FIRST PENALTY
Saints -130
Colts +100

Pick: Saints -130. The Colts had the second-fewest penalty yards in the NFL this season. There’s no reason to think a disciplined group like that would suddenly fall apart.

TEAM TO PUNT FIRST
Saints -130
Colts +100

Pick: Saints -130. See a trend here? Each of the first three picks relate to New Orleans possibly being overwhelmed to start the game. A three-and-out off the bat would make lots of sense.

TEAM TO SCORE LONGEST TOUCHDOWN IN THE GAME
Saints +120
Colts -150

Pick: Saints +120. With Devery Henderson, Robert Meachem, Reggie Bush and Courtney Roby, New Orleans has more home-run hitters than Indy does. In the Arizona game alone, Bush had two long scores.Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

TEAM TO RECORD FIRST SACK
Saints +100
Colts -130

Pick: Colts -130. This one feels like a slam-dunk, as Indy allowed just 10 sacks in the regular season. Simply amazing.

TEAM TO USE FIRST TIME OUT
Saints -115
Colts -115

Pick: Colts -115. Peyton Manning is never afraid to call a timeout if he doesn’t like what he sees at the line of scrimmage – even if it means burning one early.

TEAM TO CALL FOR A FAIR CATCH FIRST
Saints +140
Colts -170

Pick: Saints +140. Reggie Bush muffed several punts this season and did so against the Vikings in the NFC Championship game. I’m thinking he and the Saints won’t want to take too many chances and will call fair catch on anything close to risky.

TEAM TO MAKE THE LONGEST FIELD GOAL IN THE GAME
Saints +110
Colts -140

Pick: Saints +110. Matt Stover hasn’t made a 50-yarder since 2006 and has only attempted three 50-yarders since then, missing all of them. Garrett Hartley’s leg is unproven but, unlike Stover, he isn’t a guaranteed miss from 50 yards out at his young age.

  1. I would have to agree with most of these picks. They way these two offenses move the ball the first punt may not be until later in the first half of even the second half so that one could be up for grabs. Something tells me field goals are going to get it done in this one so you may see either team defer a long attempt and go for it on fourth down.
