MNF Preview: New Orleans Hosts Minnesota

Week 5 Monday night football preview for the New Orleans Saints who are 2-2 straight up and 3-1 ATS, playing against the Vikings at 8:30pm tonight on ESPN

NFL: SAINTS MARCHING TO THE PAY WINDOW?

The New Orleans Saints are 2-2 straight up and 3-1 ATS, but they’re a perfect 2-0 in both categories playing in the Superdome.

Get ready to tune in for this 8:30 pm ET game on ESPN. Early numbers show that 88% of Sportsbook.com members like the Saints giving three points and the Over/Under is set at 46.5. That’s the third highest of any game listed this week.

When you examine these two teams, it’s not very surprising that bettors like New Orleans at home. After all, the Saints have an explosive offense now with Deuce McAllister’s return to the running back position to team with Reggie Bush.

If the running game isn’t working, which could be likely against this great Minnesota run defense, they can always rely on Drew Brees to spread the field and throw it.

Last week in their 31-17 win over San Francisco, Brees threw for 363 yards and had three receivers over 80 yards. And that was with receiver Marques Colston and tight end Jeremy Shockey both out of the lineup.

When Minnesota has the ball, the first order of business is always to get it into the hands of Adrian Peterson. The sensational NFL sophomore will certainly have success against this mediocre Saints run defense. Running successfully will not only move the chains, it will keep the ball out of the hands of Brees and company.

Minnesota is just 1-3 overall on the year, and 0-2 straight up and ATS on the road, because they aren’t making enough big plays in the passing game. That is one of the reasons they replaced Tarvaris Jackson with veteran Gus Frerotte.

And while Frerotte put up decent numbers in the last two games, his yards per attempt are only 6.62 compared to 9.07 for Brees. Frerotte will have opportunites to throw on the Saints as they stack the line of scrimmage to stop Peterson, but will he be able to take advantage?

If you don’t believe he can, it’s hard to see Minnesota keeping this within three points in front of a very vocal Monday night crowd.

Besides the normal game wagering, we also have our Primetime Props special for this contest. That being, if the Saints defeat the Vikings by 26 points or more, all losing ‘Margin of Victory’ props will be refunded up to a total of $100.00 for this specific game.

We also have plenty of props like whether the longest touchdown of the game will be over 43.5 yards or whether Peterson will go Over 98.5 yards rushing. The Player to score the 1st TD is also interesting with Peterson at 7:2, Bush and McAllister both at 6:1 and New Orleans’ receiver Lance Moore at 8:1.
